Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Baking, duck eggs are for baking. So many of my baker friends swear by them. I don't know what makes the difference but they say it makes a noticeable difference especially in breads and cakes.

Duck eggs are fluffier then chicken eggs. So it makes lighter breads and cakes. I made zucchini bread with them and then went to a family potluck and everyone loved it and wanted to know how i got the bread to be light and fluffy instead of being a "heavy bread". :D I didn't give away my secret though.

Anyone know if it's possible to ship month old ducklings? I have a friend who lost some of her ducklings she just bought this spring (they drowned) i wanted to send her a few of mine. But i cannot figure out how to ship them.

I'd ship them same way you would a chicken. Toss in some apple chunks or lettuce to help with water but otherwise should be fine, month old shouldn't need heat. Horizon Micro Environment shipping boxes seem to be one of the most popular and approved boxes.

Who accepts them to be shipped though? Does USPS accept them? Fedex and UPS workers laughed at me when i called then said they don't ship live birds.
I couldn't understand usps rules on it and the workers at the post office look at me like i'm a freak when i ask. Basically they don't have an answer. I thought about going by their rules on them and just saying they are day olds but that isn't right to do. :(
Do they have to be shipped priority, or what?

Yeah USPS priority. Your local post office should be able to help, if they can't you might have to go to a larger post office. You do have to have a certified box. It's been a while since I shipped but I can't imagine its changed that much, get an approved box (I like Horizon) box them up, take them to post office and they can handle it from there.

Actually looking around it looks like older birds can be sent express. If still recommend priority though. Just make sure temps are ok. I don't like shipping birds if the temps on either end (or in between) is going to be above 80-85 at the MOST, some waterfowl people prefer no higher than 75

cool, Right now i'm trying to find where to buy a box. I just need one box. I can't really afford to buy a box of boxes. I wish i could find a local place that sold them. That would be great.

Looking for just a few hatching eggs, 5 to 8, either Silkie or some kind of blue or green egg layer.
Am in Lynnwood.
thanks,

I'd give you eggs, but my stupid rooster isn't doing his job. He's only got a few girls he likes and sticks to them. He'll even ignore the hens in his pen and just wait for days for me to let him out so he can get 'his' girls.
