Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Oh my gosh CL that is pretty and wow a lot of work went into that baby. I'm new at quilting and just want to do it all, my problem my girlfriend said is I'm going for some of the hardest ones. She keeps telling me there is time to do them.

I'm a "wanna-be"!!! I'm fairly new to chicks....just moved to Washington and waiting for my new chickies as the end of the month And searching for sewing machine and patterns to learn quilting!!! I've got the same interests.....just not the talents yet lol!!!

Thank you so much, Carolyn, we have seen some racoons in our front yard, no coyotes yet, but plenty of hawks and eagles (almost daily). We are implementing all of your suggestions (did some good reading on this site) and even changed the hasps on the coop door so that the racoon's nimble fingers can't figure it out. One suggestion was to have a lock on the door with the key hanging nearby at all times - they're smart, but won't be able to insert a key into the lock!

I'm happy to hear about the cold issue. We were going to wire some electrical down there for the cold nights/days (the lake does freeze in the shallow end where our house is).

Once again thank you!

Another hint for Coons...they hate electric fence! At least, at my house they do...

I had problems with coons up until I added two strands of electric wire, one down low, and one up a little higher. I heard a coon spitting and screaming the first night after I installed it...haven't had a bit of trouble with them since. I took the wire down to add to the fencing and need to get it back up before the little buggers come around again. If you do put electric in your coop you could add a small electric fencer and keep the coons from even trying to get your birds!

Hi I am on the Olympic Peninsula and looking for a Black Copper Maran Hen if anyone knows someone who might have one? Just got a Black Copper Maran rooster (and six other chickens from chicks last year) just don't really want to buy or hatch a bunch of chicks, but open to suggestions! Thanks!

Do the eagles prefer the chicks or will they take off with a full grown as well? There's one that likes to bring his fish to eat in a tree in my backyard. I worry about my chihuahuas too.

clawstar Here is how to do it on mobile.
For this example, I have it as if going to post a new member post. This works in any bottom sub forum. If you are in a thread or a higher forum, it won't work.

My dad has lost several cats to eagles over the years. I've had hawks kill adult hens.

Eagles will take full grown chickens, ducks, and small dogs! I knew someone who's dachshund was taken by an eagle but she saw it, ran after it yelling her head off and the eagle dropped the dog. One trip to the vet and some stitches and doggy was fine but how scary was that?! That being said they are not a big problem everywhere like coons are. Hopefully your friendly neighborhood eagle prefers fish!
