Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Nope. I was in the exact same boat 2 years ago. We live in city limits, and I accidentally got a BR Roo, which happened to be the favorite from my first chicks. I thought I may be able to keep him quiet or hidden some of the time, but I was wrong. We were reported to our local Compliance Dept within 5 days of him crowing, and that was probably because he crowed all hours of the day AND night...and he was loud. Much louder than I thought he'd be...even from inside the coop in the back of our yard.
I was told I had 24 hours to get rid of him, but I didn't want to just hand him over to the feed store. One of my neighbors gets real cranky, real fast, when it comes to chickens, (she's sandwiched between 2 suburban chicken houses) and I was afraid of her finding something else to complain about if I couldn't keep him quiet, so we brought him inside, and put him in one of our unused fireplaces for a few hours until his new owners came for him.

Just having him inside part of the day, I knew he would be MUCH happier somewhere with a flock of hens to protect.
That is a very funny phot that you should enter in the BYC caption contest !
What you do is go on that thread & post this funny photo !
I will post the link~

Heres a pic of my lav orpington amd barnevelder. I went to the guys property and saw his birds. Hes the real deal. I just texted him and he said they are a brown egg layer but a very rare bunch will lay green eggs. So I got a very rare lavender orp? Lol. Sorry shes not too pretty... I came outside a few months ago and found my dog chewing on her. I thought she was gonna die but shes my survivor and healing great!

Me thinks maybe the birdie in the background (pea combed EE looking) is the layer of the blue eggs........................

and good luck! What breed (s) do you have?

Thanks! So far I have 2 SLWs, 1 BW, 1 Australorp, 1 Speckled Sussex & 1 RIR. In the next two weeks I'm hoping to add 1 Dominique, 1-2 BLRWs, 1-2 more Speckled Sussex, 1 Ameracuana & 1 Light Brahma. 4 of the chicks will eventually be going to my friend (she already has chickens, so she lent me some of her brooding supplies then decided she couldn't resist getting a chick or two (or 4 apparently) so I offered to take care of them until they were big enough to join her flock).

I couldn't really decide which breed I liked best, so I kind of went with the 1 of each idea. (Hoping that wasn't a mistake.) Figured in a few years when I either want to grow my flock or what not I'll know what breeds I like best and start to stick with those. Or maybe I'll always like a mix. Who knows! What I can say is that this is very addicting. I never thought it would be, thought the few friends I knew who had chickens were crazy, and now I totally understand. LoL!

Hi There! And Welcome To The Group!
If you go back just about a week you'll see some tips. and ideas. There's also an entire section on building coops with some very good ideas. Kudos for planning ahead!
Thanks for the tip on going back. I went back a few weeks and just now got caught up to here. So glad I did - got lots of good advice! Wish I had known about the Monroe show before it happened - I'm just minutes from there. I'll have to plan on that one (and others I'm sure) for next year.

I'm in Skagit Valley and new to raising chickens. What is the general consensus on when I put my babes out in their coop, especially here in Western Wa? They are three weeks now. The brooder is starting to look small real quick! Three more weeks?

I was super impatient about getting babies so we went to Monroe feed on Friday and picked up 7 chicks! 4 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Americauna's, and 1 Silver Lace Wyandotte. So far , everyone is happy and healthy as can be.

I got SLWs from Monroe on Friday as well. Our chicks are hatch sisters!! =D

Does anyone around have Lemon Cuckoo Orpington chicks? (or hatching eggs but I prefer chicks) I purchased 18 hatching eggs of that breed from Papa's Poultry and only 1 hatched. Total bummer to say the least. :(
