Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

About 6 years ago I lived in Woodinville/Bothell. Even at 6:00 in the morning the traffic on 405 could be horrendous. Some days I could get through Bellevue (going south) in 15 minutes, other days it would take almost an hour. Moving away from there was a happy day. Just my opinion. I'm more of a country gal.

I commute all the time to Bellevue, Seattle, everett and Renton

Carnation to Bellevue 35 minutes
Carnation to Seattle 45 minutes to 55 minutes
Carnation to Renton 1 hr
Carnatin to everett 1 hr to 1 hr 15 minutes

normal commute and no traffic jam. During rush hour add 15-30 minutes more

Anyone else ever think that putting eggs into the incubator is basically like creating a Schrödinger's chicken situation?

Hi everybody. I'm up here in Buckley and am trying to connect with local chicken enthusiasts. I have chickens and ducks, 3 crazy dogs and one thankfully very tolerant husband. Not counting chickens at the moment. Have a wild assortment of breeds and types. Is there anyone near me?

Do you have a FB chicken group in your area? That might help to try and meet up with people. I have a group I belong to for Whatcom Co . We have so much fun. I learn so much from the group & once a month we have a meet and greet in different areas around Whatcom so everyone has a chance to come.

Hi all, I haven't posted since my first day here a few weeks ago. I finally got my table saw assembled and learned how to use it so I cut the lumber for the coop today. I got everything cut and started building the run. I decided to make a small, stationary coop and a detachable run that I can easily move around my huge lawn. Am I correct in thinking that the run needn't be huge if there are only 3 hens and it will be in a different spot every day, or moved throughout each day? It's like a tractor I guess and those always seem to be fairly small compared to stationary runs. I also plan on letting them in to a 10x10 foot pen (4 feet high with bird netting on top) sometimes, and I'll let them free range eventually once they know where home is. Is that all bonkers or am I on the right path to spoiling my girls? My goal is to keep them happy while avoiding any part of my yard getting scratched to death.

For good measure, here they are at nearly 6 weeks old. I put them out in an up-side-down baby playpen while I cleaned the brooder and cut lumber and they loved it :) My dog is going to be the one to watch around the birds. She is a hunter at heart. I hope the pictures show up, I'm having trouble with uploads lately.

Looks like our turkeys hatched two chickens. The hen is still sitting on a nest full of mixed eggs. When they peep she lays down to protect and warm them. The tom is keeping all other birds at a distance.

I'm up here in South King county - maybe 30 minutes or so away from Buckley. It's going to be great weather next week. Can't wait to finally get my chicks outside for some free ranging!
