3 partridge silkie chicks out. Still waiting on others. Mama is being less grabby on me. She knows they are hatching and that I'll remove the broken shells to make her more comfortable. Well less grabby as not as I don't spend to long messing with her and them. She doesn't peck and it's not really a bite. She more of tries to grab and push my hand away.

Is there such a thing as a runt chicken or a late bloomer? Two of my hens (18 weeks old) have nice full combs and wattles but the third hardly has any. She's not much smaller than the others and eats plenty, seems very healthy.

Yes and yes. Plus if you have siblings, compare yourself to them.

I posted a couple of days ago that we got our $800 egg (first one). Four days later we got another one. Neither of them were in the nest box so we left the second one in the coop in a nest box. When we came out a couple of hours later one of the production reds was sitting on it. She was hunkered down and didn't want to get off of that egg. Later that night we checked and she was off the egg so we removed it.

Was she practicing? At four months isn't she too young to go broody? I will say though the roosters will not leave the Australorps alone.

Thank you for what it's worth, my only sister and I were always mistaken for twins. I realize all chickens develop at their own pace (I have kids, too, and they definitely have their differences). I just thought for her age she looks far behind the others. I guess she'll just catch up later on and that's ok here is the other buff orpington of the exact same age for comparison.

I'm In granite falls wa...i am in need of sellling off 5 pure ancona ducks who are fully feathered an use to free range. It's a group of 5. One is a tri color. I don't know their sex though.

Also have another group of 3 little babies who are 4 wks old approx. that i need to sell that are also Ancona. (they need heat lamp still)

I'm open to decent offers.

These babies have been taken good care of but I just cant keep up on the feed much longer.

I've found that my girls will sit on the nest for a variety of reasons, including "practicing". Four months is a bit young, and since she hasn't produced her first egg yet I don't think she's broody yet. But with that said I have to tell you about my Ameraucana that went broody FIVE times before she was one year old! I chose to break her broody each time so she got really tenacious! They're always full of surprises! I swear mine never do what they're supposed to do!!

I picked these two out yesterday. I know the right one is from Dottie; she was in the coop laying while I was poking around. I'm not sure who the left egg was from. This is Dottie's 5th egg with a double yolk. Will she always lay doubles?
