Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Not a Chicken question BUT does anyone in Whatcom Co area have a Duck ? One of mine was taken yesterday .. not sure by what. Now my poor lone girl Dolly is by herself and not having fun hanging out with the chickens.

So far my flock integration is going smoothly! The new bantam has established herself as alpha and they're starting to relax around each other. Anybody know if I should expect bedtime drama? That seems like it could be a big hurdle. I'm planning on leaving the new girl's carrier in the run as a backup bed for her tonight, or will that just prolong the inevitable and mess with the burgeoning pecking order?

Hello Fellow Washingtonians! I live in the Toledo area and have a small flock of Orpingtons and Wyandottes. I'm looking for sources in-state for English-bred Orpington pullets (Lavenders, Lavender/Splits, Black and possibly Lavender Cuckoo). I have had eggs and birds shipped in the past but would prefer to do business in person and more locally. If any of you have resources you could recommend I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

She has a good reputation. I'll mention to her that you're looking, maybe you can send her a message, too.

If you are able to save enough funds for the first quarter of care, housing and feed he may warm up to that especially if you can show where the money will come from. (without speculative money).

PS. Chickens do.help with bugs.in the flower beds but they also like to make dust baths and nest in them too. My hubby wasn't pleased.

So true Eliz! My girls have been banned from the flower beds now. But DH enjoys having them so we're good.

If she's become the alpha there should be no need for the carrier as a backup. And even if she weren't your thought that it will prolong the inevitable is true. You might want to take a peek after dark and see where she is. If she's not on a perch just put her up. They'll be fine.

Thanks Carolyn , I will have eggs in the spring,. I imported from the UK this year so next spring should have some nice ones popping out. I will have a pen of all black also. I do not have lavender. I have BBS , Jubilee (including direct imports) Spangled, and direct import BBS bantams. along with the BBS import lines I have been working with for a couple years now. I MIGHT have some young black pullets in a month or two. otherwise, eggs in the spring. :)

I have Red Orpingtons that are about 5 plus months old.....I also have Jubilee. I am going to sell my red and work on the Jubilees for the time being. The Red came from FancyChicks, in case anyone is interested. We are also having a flock reduction as we lost our corn mash source. So if you are looking for Blue Appenzeller rooster and a white hen to go with him, we have them. As well as a couple of Wheaten Marans hen. I will be going thru the flock tomorrow and making a short list of who stays.
