Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Amberjem politely posted a very nice rebuttal.

So I'll just say this...

With this scare of the flu getting around people think they know everything. I'm tired of it. Letting a group know what's going on or giving helpful tips or information is one thing but I personally didn't read these post as such. I took it as an attack on how some people might raise their chickens.

I have PET chickens that I FREE RANGE anywhere on my property even in my GARDEN and even though I have become well acquainted with my share of chicken knowledge but yet I still love talking to ALL chicken people on this site that isn't for anyone who know anything about chickens!

I could care less what anyone thinks about it either! These birds aren't yours they're mine.

I wouldn't be afraid of attending a show, Most of what has been said is to help make aware of how easy it would be for something to be spread. Many folks here do show their birds. I always carry in my vehicle, hand sanitizers, clorox wipes and lysol spray.

I'm sorry if our words were kind of strong…..yes it is true that all over the US people enjoy their birds without care or problems…….I will also continue to free range somewhat as well, but the truth is somewhere in between….and worth giving some thought. I used to raise llamas during the time of the big F & M outbreak in the UK. I communicated with llama folks there and it was awful….no one could control their ability to save their animals even when the tests were negative and they were miles away……. The reason i bring this up is that the governor of Wisconsin ? Michigan? publicly stated that if his state had an outbreak he would destroy all ruminants within 40 miles. That is scary because it didn't matter clean, pet, or commercial.

That's drastic... Especially given that some people love thwir animald like people... and others depend on thwm to eat. I know there are people who wouldn't be able to eat if the government wiped out their livestock. Even here... When I was growing up I knew a couple familes that raised their own meat and couldn't possibly afgord to lose their rabbits etc and just start shopping at the store.

O my that is awful, and by the way wasn't that before 2006?

I'm going to second this. Everyone has their opinion and they think what they do is the only right way to do it. Your birds are your property to do with as you please. My birds are going to free range, no discussion is going to change that. They are happy out there eating grass in the fresh air. It isn't right for one person to tell another person how to house their animals. Personally I think showing birds is silly, and I highly doubt your chicken wants to sit in a small cage in a room with hundreds of other birds so that they can be exposed to pathogens and little kids can poke their fingers at them all day long. However, I'm not going to tell anyone not to do it.

Now Now guys lets not get all huffie about whether we think that someone is trying to tell us how to take care of our birds, their simply stating what they think is right!!!

Hello neighbors!
I have pullets coming from McMurray the first week of February and I need to find homes for 15 or so. They are EEs, Plymouth Rocks, Partridge Rocks, Brown leghorns, and possibly a Welsummer or 2) Not sure how many of each will be available yet.

PM me if interested!
