Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I had to go look up what a bull's eye in an egg was....now I know the rest of the story.
My husband had a niece who when learning what that little white "string" was, wouldn't eat eggs anymore unless she knew for certain that the "string" had been removed before cooking.

The stringy parts - there is usually one on each end of the yolk suspend the yolk in the shell to protect it - it's not an embryo or the fertilized part, so not sure why that would gross his niece out?

The bullseye on the other hand, is the female DNA contribution (center of bullseye and present on every yolk) and the male DNA (white outer ring of bullseye present if the egg has been fertilized). I recently read the entire thread on this and received a great education - before I had no idea what a fertilized egg looked like and wondered about the bloodspots (which have nothing to do with fertilization). Hope that short summary helps anyone reading this and wondering...

Yeah, I've had that same cold virus for two weeks. Every other day my throat hurts so bad that I don't want to eat or drink because it hurts to swallow. Today is a bad day, so hopefully tomorrow I can catch up on eating. LOL

Today I made it to the feed store and picked up a 40 pound bag of Layena for $13.49. Next week the flock raiser and scratch grains will be on sale so I'll have to go back and load up the barn. Five cents a pound doesn't seem like a big difference, but when you are buying 250 pounds of feed at a time a little savings goes a long way.

Uggghh. I think I just realized I have too many birds.

UGH!!!
We have passed the "CRUD" back & forth since NOV 27th !!!!!
And we have not gotten sick in at least 15 years~~~~~~
THIS is so weird that measels, meningitis, viral pnuemonia, avian & "bird" flu,SMALL POX !!! and so many others (insane EBOLA virus this fall !) have suddenly reappered in our world after being GONE for so very long !

It is almost as if a drone flew over loaded with some oddball LONG LOST virus.................... all in 1 winter !
So I am waiting for SWINE FLU........let's hope it does not go anywhere else....
Oh well, stay well, and I will be fine.

I have surgery the 25th, Haller Lake has surg coming up the 13th...let's wish her well !

So apparently I am running a rescue center... I acquired silkies today and need to rehome them. They aren't my kind of birds but I will hold them until I can find them a good place.

Backstory.

There was a coop fire near me yesterday and we won't get into coops and heat lamps, but all 3 chickens made it out. They caught 2 but 1 is hiding. They say they will bring it to me when they find it. The 2 I have were in terrible shape.

These are the Spurs off the rooster

I have spent hours clipping, cleaning and checking over these 2. They are all cleaned up but are a little shook up understandably. I don't know they're ages.
