Yes and how did you know she was a female?

]So apparently I am running a rescue center... I acquired silkies today and need to rehome them. They aren't my kind of birds but I will hold them until I can find them a good place.

Backstory.

There was a coop fire near me yesterday and we won't get into coops and heat lamps, but all 3 chickens made it out. They caught 2 but 1 is hiding. They say they will bring it to me when they find it. The 2 I have were in terrible shape.

These are the Spurs off the rooster

Wow! Those Spurs are something else! Thanks for taking these sweeties in and glad the fire didn't claim lives or homes!

I have spent hours clipping, cleaning and checking over these 2. They are all cleaned up but are a little shook up understandably. I don't know they're ages.

You know how to twist off spurs, right ?
Just twist, its easy !
Good for you for rescue-ing, and I feel the same way about heat lamps...only for baby chicks, and secured properly so they do not fall, and hopefully over sand, not shavings or straw.
You are correct !
No way is it cold enough for ...OK I'll quit right there !

I took out my heat lamp a few weeks ago.... I was so scared of a fire that I tied it with like 3 strings to keep it up and out of the way...
I "tie" mine on over my chicks (never over adults) and I use grape vine wire, very heavy wire.
Never use a heat lamp with adults.
This winter has even been especially warm.
It is sacrey to think of how warm this summer might be !

So, I got off my dead a@@ and dug out the big incubator, dusted it off, and had Einstein help me dolly it out & into the cabin and set it up, water in the bucket, set the tray, all clean inside & plugged it in & within 20 min it was humming along rock steady at 99. and now, I am in big trouble, cuz this thing can easily deal with 350 chicken eggs........................
I am only gonna do a few dozen !

Lord help me !

I really wanted to hatch our first eggs under a broody hen. One of our Favs went broody once in the fall and once in the winter, but we weren't ready yet so we did the breaker-box routine (worked great).

Now that it's time, she doesn't seem interested.

Trying very hard not to take advantage of a friend reminding me that she has an incubator that she would loan me.

So very tempting...

I tried to twist the Spurs but I had to clip the one first because it twisted around the back of his leg! Worst spur I've ever seen!

Update! Found a great home where they can all go together and they found the 3rd hen but haven't caught her yet...
