Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I didn't know you could order so few chicks from My Pet Chicken. Can you order just one of each breed? Say 1 of each plymouth rock, buckeye, Ameracauna, Australorp and Welsummer? That would be cool!
Yes, you can! My order had 1 Australorp and 1 Buckeye! That's what sold me on buying from them! I'm now really happy because I have healthy birds too!

Edited to say this - If I had it to do over I would buy TWO of each I only bought one of because my little Buckeye is the one that died and I really wanted a Buckeye.

So cool! I just checked their site. Theybdont have any Buckeyes available in January and like you that's one that I would really like. The other breed I really want is plymouth rock. I love the way the barred ones look. I would really like a buff colored bird but I worry about broodiness with the Orpingtons. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get a couple orps. Oh the decisions!!!

I'm pretty sure I saw an ad selling buckeye chicks on Spokane Craigslist. I don't know how far that is from you but they might ship if need be?

Wow I just read up on Buckeyes here on BYC. Do they really mouse better than cats?! That would be a good breed for those that have to deal with mice/rats?

LOL,
That's why I bought her, but sadly I never got to find out. I think the breeds that are listed as "excellent foragers" all would be great mousers. People forget that chickens are omnivores and tend to think of them as vegetarians but really they love meat too!

My barred Rocks love catching mice.

Would love to see a chicken catch mice! Bet that's a lot of fun to watch.

Well, we need to put a rudder on the house...so much rain. Let the chickens out BC its so boring to be in the coop/run all day. When I checked them at 5 pm, they were roosting in coop but each of them was quite wet. It's not super cold (45 low, 50 high) but they are wet. Should I leave them inside on these kind of days? Guess I'll check tomorrow to see if they are dryin the morning.
