Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

nah only thing we had was the little pet shop style turtle I couldn't have been more
than 4 or 5, it disappeared from whatever it was in, Mom found it when we went
to move out here in 68 dried up in the back of our closet....
had a couple pet mice after we had been here a few years
but never lost them.
We had the red eared pet turtle disapear too...then news came out that they carried TB so no one wanted them anymore as pets !

The desert tortise would disapear & a few weeks later a neighbor from 1/2 mile away would bring him back....we had our phone # on his shell, which you are not supposed to do, but ya can't put a collar on a turtle either...picture that in your mind !

I will jumpon the turtle bandwagon!

I have 4 mini musk turtles.
They are about 98% aquotic and rarely if ever come out of the water, they mostly crawl and swim around...love their little faces!

COOL!
I have a 20 gal (I know it is small) aquarium...it was used to breed brine shrimp when we had the koi farm, so I go through withdrawls and had to have something in the aquarium...so I have a super bio filter, and 4 cory cats...and I need a few more things to entertain me...maybe a turtle is what I need ?
Warm or cold water ?
Where did you get them ?
Expensive ?
Tell us about them!

How are they volume wise? We live in town with fairly close...grumpy neighbors.
The Biel hens rarely make more than a disapointed grumpy "wahhhhh"
DH says they sound just like Bruce Lee getting ready to kick....like a karate guy.

The males are not very loud either compared to others.
Biels are so docile it is difficult to walk through a flock.
They will stand in front of the car (or us) and simply not "get it" that they need to move.

Most lines lay a very large egg, much larger than an Orpington.
They do not eat as much as Orps do, although they are chow hounds.
Biels do not really care if they can free range or not.
Course mine have a very large 'run'.

If I open their gate, some wander out, most just don't, which is good....considering their size & personalities, they may not be capable of realizing danger and being self preserving like another breed would.

Got it from Home Depot. Ordered it online, and picked it up from the Warrenton store, so didn't pay sales tax or shipping. We will probably be hiding from the tourists.
We shop in Warrenton, too...love the drive, much nicer than all the people going to Olympia (Costco)

Well, I always hide so this time I wanna go....

Room temp once past 6 month, they get about 4 inches and run about 70 ish a turtle but peice is coming down, they are available threw hobbyist only, the stores cannot sell them due to the 4 inch laws on turtles and that is their max size!
You will need at least a 20g per turtle.

They are one of many..many tanks we have 400 or more gallons combined, I breed rare endangered fish, mostly bettas currently (not the kind you buy in a cup) and my Husband raises aquotic plants.

We had a koi farm in California...our house surrounded by ponds (and coops) I still love koi !
my favorite Ishigaki:

Isn't she beautiful ? I love her color and the varigated scales on her sides meant she was a cull to the japanese, who have rigrous 'rules' as to what a koi can be, and the word "Ishigaki" means "Rock Wall" in Japanese, due to the various sizes of scales + a lack of scales in some areas (Doitsu)
I kept all my Ishigaki & bred them, as I loved the variation, unlike the japanese.
Rebel Koi farmer....LOL

I could sit & watch them for hours !

I better get to work ! I could sit here for hours going through photos !
Samall guy upper right is also a Doitsu, large orage is Ogon. and the calico is a Showa, little black & white is a Shiro Becko...I had so many & had to have every color, but I really never like Kohaku, which is the japanese favorite.

Well, it just so happens I have quite a few.
Do you want hatching eggs, or chicks ?
I have no adults for sale.
I will have a few chicks soon.
I usually do not hatch any unless they are asked for, lest I get stuck with them...trying to keep the limit to under 40 here, preferrably 30.
