at least he was leading part of the race. beside Danzing Candy, Nyquist and Exaggerator.. all the other horses can see are butts and lots of butts.

You can wet them & get them sprouted if you have time, that would be all the more better for the birds.

Thinking about getting a few pigs too.. these lentils should help .. I don't think feeding straight. . Just mixing it.. so far so good

Mine are hanging out! We had a scare when a swarm showed up in the yard, bUT they buzzed off before I could get lemongrass oil to try and bait them into a box. They were way up in a tree, and I wasn't rising my big pregnant belly to climb for them. Lol. They left and mine are still in and out of their hive, so I'm waiting until next weekend to open up the hive, and hopefully add my first super!

I shouldn't have to worry about a requeen for a year or so, but there is a guy up in the Hoh that breeds from feral bees that may be interesting to add to a hive!

LOL, that made me laugh. We've had loose bees in the car too... had to drive with the gear on! We just did a hive check and the swarm we caught last year - which we did not support with sugar water all winter - has a weak queen - lots of stores, a little bit of brood, lots of pollen, but she's not laying robustly. I've heard that you have to re-queen a captured hive after a year or two, so we're going to try to re-queen tomorrow. How are yours fairing?

Yay! And funny little thing, holding out on you. That's what, 8 months or something? Her older sisters started laying mid January, at 5.5 months. One is a stinker about hiding her eggs though. What color did you get?

We neither soak cracked corn, or any type of wheat....or millet or any other grain, the beauty of a seed eater is that it has a built in grinder...called a gizzard, and the gizzard grinds up the seeds.

Lentils are also excellent for humans to eat, which is why you get them at the Food Bank, and it irritates me to see you give human food over to animals.
I support the food banks, and we donate our vegies and fruits, and to know humans give away decent food leads me to believe you need to not go to the food bank, OR give these thing BACK to the food bank, as there are others that are going hungry while you throw good human food away.

This really really makes me mad.
It makes me not want to ever donate to the food bank again.

We don't throw food away and we don't take government surplus food to feed to our chickens. The lentils are in my food pantry and I had not even thought of feeding them to the chickens until today. I just have not done anything with them because it is not something I would have purchased to eat, however we eat alot of food that stores would otherwise throw away because I am disabled and beggers can't be choosers.

At the end of every week there are people who pick up whatever food was not given to people and they feed it to their pigs. We get the same food the same day as the pig farmers and we eat it. I have had ulcers for two years from bacteria in the food we get from the food bank but I still eat it and feed it to my family. I am deathly allergic to mold and the fruit at the food bank always has mold on it (they say to pick the edible stuff out of the moldy stuff) so I have to pass on getting any soft fresh fruit that grows mold.

I do not waste food and I have taught my children not to waste food but I have worked with children who won't eat the crust on a sandwich and take more food than they can eat just to throw it away. I actually have raised pigs in the past when I taught preschool due to all the wasted food there.

You are really barking up the wrong tree here. I utilize resources most people would throw away because I don't believe in being wasteful.

... that is why I am planting 2 rows of cabbage will be planting all my salad goodies throught
the summer what we have extra that is good can go to a food bank or senior center
if it turns at all it goes to the chickens.. extra eggs I hard boil for the dogs
taking most to the senior center...

That's very good of you my animals all eat very well, very naturally. I eat poorly. I'm not sure why I pay so much attention to what my animals eat and nothing to what I do.
Totally changing the subject, here's a picture of all my chickens up on the roost tonight. They've been really good about this for about a week now. And they love to free range in the yard. It's funny how they stay in their own little groups though. The three youngest don't really mingle with the others at all. Maybe someday they will.
