Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Sad week at our chicken house. The neighbors dog went under my house, under my deck and into my backyard and killed my momma hen. :( I am just heartbroken. This is the second hen this dog has stolen and killed in 6 months. The first time our fence had been blown down in a storm, and left unrelated for too long. . I take responsibility for that one. But to have it come in through a hole where the cat goes and literally hunt down my momma is infuriating. Thankfully I had some younger chicks in a brooder(kicked out eggs by another mom). My rooster that had been in total love with these babies is so down. He has slept in her nest box the last two nights. Just sad

I am so sorry! I lost one of my babies to a neighbor's dog a few weeks ago, also not the first time. It's so unfair when they come on your property and murder your babies; the very place they should be safe.

My hubs got home before I did and went to chat with them. He was much more kind than I would have been about it. He told them that if he sees the dog of leash and around that he will take care of it himself.
I would be having a serious talk with that neighbor. The dog went onto your property. I'm very sorry that you lost your mama chicken

I am in the market for a young Ameraucana cockerel, blue or splash in color.....or silver, but they are rare.
I prefer somewhere in the 2-4 month old range so I can easily integrate him with my other young chickens for raising.
He is for a project, and does not need to be show potential. However, I am looking for a good, healthy, strong blue egg laying line.

I could potentially swap a pullet of similar age, or pay outright.
I would ask for a good picture, note on lineage, and pics of parents if they are your birds.

I am on the Olympic Peninsula, but willing to travel to Seattle area for the right bird.

Thanks!!

I don't know what the laws are where you live but here you can legally shoot a dog that is attacking your chickens. On your property. It's sad because the dog is being a dog and hasn't been taught any better by the people. But as much as I love dogs I would not let one kill my chickens if I could help it. Can you put up a very strong electric fence? One that will zap the crap out of that dog?

The problem is with the owner not the dog... shoot the owner not the dog use to be
and I think still is approved to to shoot or defend your livestock by whatever means..
I am very, very defending of any dogs bad behavior is caused by the human
