In the Brooder
Not around here. You will get fined for 'unintentional' feeding of the bear. They have the opinion that the bear was just being a bear, and you, as the human, did something to draw the bear in. They assume that the bear would not come up to the house unless there was a 'food' reason. You can't leave food out for your outside cat or dog either. That's considered baiting. You're not allowed to have wild bird feeders or keep your trash can outside. The problem is, not everybody has a garage or shed to store their trash can, they have no choice but to have it out. And the trash company refuses to provide 'bear-proof' cans, because that would mean the drivers doing the pick ups would actually have to do more than sit in the truck and push a button.
Bears have pulled down fencing to get to trash. They will pull apart a shed to get to trash. The woods are full of berries this time of year, but they just sit, ignored by the bears. They are trash eaters around here. And nothing is being done.
Was reading up on this law:
RCW 77.15.245 http://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=77.15.245
Case against: Doris Berryhill Parks http://tdn.com/news/local/friendly-...cle_eacc6868-ee99-11e3-aa94-0019bb2963f4.html
From the point of view of Baiting / people being irresponsible: I didn't see a time frame on when you can leave your feed outside (or in a run). There should be a time frame when you can leave feed outside and within that time frame it is not consider baiting, since it is ok to have livestock and livestock has to be feed outside. There is no way to contain feeder odor.
Our chicken wakes up around 4am and head inside at 9pm... I would like to see the fine print on when it is ok to have feed outside. If feed is never allow outside, then there will be a interesting change in the law.
