As my EEs have gotten older, they've decided to try the broody thing once. Most of my wheaten Ameraucana are also older and go broody once a year now.

I have a lot of silkies. They go broody multiple times a year if you turn your back on them. I've had pullets go broody before they ever laid an egg.

I believe this a barred rock Pullet I bought in the spring so
6 months old.. my other 5 hens are accounted for plus two
more bought in March also.. would it be a good idea to place
a broken shell with them?

I don't. It helps if its dark so chicks stay under her for the night. I'm always up at first light checking after i put chicks under.

I have a couple specific hens that will take the chicks from me in daylight. And i do mean take. Set a chick in front of the and they shove the chick under.

So should I do this while it is still light?

Sorry. We were butchering a tree.

After dark so they can't see

One of my hens went missing on the 26th, I found her today sitting on a nest with 16 eggs in it

She's a Americana and my roo is a Barred rock. This is her first batch, and I just moved her to a fenced in run today. Is it too late for her to be hatching chicks? The eggs are already developed and I really would hate to throw them out. anything I should watch for? What should I change with the run? its pretty big, and shares 2 walls with the main coop's run. None of the fencing is small enough to keep chicks in tho, do I need to change that? Thanks!
