Thank you again Ma and I where not always in agreement but
also knew we loved one another... The dementia robbed us of her
mind but not her memories we held.

A slow boring Sunday with no Seahawks...
This is the "empty" part of the season, between football and NASCAR......

But that said, what a fantastic Chinook this year, huh ?

One year while living in Northern Idaho, it had been -20 for weeks.....and we had at least 4 foot of snow, under about 1" of hard ice.
At minus 20 degrees, icicles about 12" long hung from the eaves....

One day about the 15th of January we awoke to what sounded like dripping water....no way at minus 20 degrees !

We opened the front door and there was hardly ANY snow !
All the icicles had dropped off the roof....snow was slidding off the roof.................
Permafrost in the soil kept all the snow melt from soaking into the soil...so we had what amounts to liquifaction going on.....and simply allowing the car to warm up a few minutes would cause it to vibrate itself into the dirt like quick sand..............
I had to dig the car out a few times until I learned to start it early in the morning when it was still cold, and liewise drive in the driveway & park after sun down only.
After a week or 2 of this splendid weather, winter returned right back to minus 20 again, and winter carried on.

This is the "Chinook Wind" that causes this temporary warming always about the middle of januray, as told to me by an old Nez Pierce Indian who lived up that way in Northern Idaho.

Watch for it every year !
It still amazes me & surprises me year after year !

You probably have profound Chinook memories from being in Alaska...where were you in Alaska anyways ?

Einstein's grandpa spent most of his time in Anchorage.....we have his moose gun now.....a canon actually....

@chickielady I was born and raised in Anchorage. Moved down here to Lacey, WA just about 3 years ago. Chinook winds back home were always a breath of warm air, but you sure knew they wouldn't last!

Yes indeed, but what we did know & do know, is it is such a relief as to give us all a brake from the below zero temps....get the snow off the roof, and the firewood pile...and the driveway !
reminds us of a promise that spring will come...almost to the point where we wanted to go lay out in the yard in a chaise lounge !

Catching very much needed vitamin E in deepest Januray...even when the chinook brought us 40-50 degree temps, it felt like hot summer to us !

I miss mooses...and Aspen..................

I miss moose steaks especially !

Moose steak! Boy do I miss that too! Love AK and it'll always be home, but not a lot I miss (i.e. Long, cold, dark winters!). Right now Anchorage had gotten about 2 feet of snow I think!

I've never had bear. Was to afraid to try it after hearing so many negative things about it! I have heard that it's very dependent on what timebof the year it's taken.
