Amprolium blocks thiamine absorbions by coccidiosis. It's not an antibiotic. The purpose is to weaken the cocci so that the chicken immune system can overpower them.

That is what medicated feed has in it. It's not an antibiotic. It's the overuse of antibiotics that has caused so many human health issues.

So I raised up 5 golden laced wyandotts, 5 buff Orpingtons and 2 barnyard mix pullits to 5 1/2 months old and put them in the coop at night up on the roost with the year old hens and the Roo they were all still up there in the morning except the older birds had moved out in the run along with the one barn yard mix that was the queen of the younger birds she took a lot of abuse from the older hens but she is fast but she hasn't ventured out in the run since neither have the rest of the youngsters. It's been two weeks now and the young birds all stay inside the coop and the older birds go into the run every morning except to come back in to lay eggs some of the new girls are laying as well. How long do you guys think they will stay separated like that? They are getting along this way but it seems really strange to me.

I'm actually glad the way it turned out it gave them all some time to be around each other. The new ones still are sleeping on the coop floor at night don't know if I should leave them alone ore put them up on the roost at night. I didn't spoil this bunch like I did the older girls if I say treat to them they come a running the new ones I have only been giving meal worms to for about 4 days they are starting to figure out they are good.

Hi all! I'm a chicken newbie from Washington state. We picked up our chicks on Saturday: 2 Easter eggers, 2 Cuckoo Marans, and 2 black Australorps. The kids are in love with the cute little fuzzies. :) We have been reading and learning all we can for the past few days, and I will probably continue to read more than post for a while, but I thought I'd stop by and introduce myself.
