Finally have some muddy ground opening up after all the rain it melted a good portion of the snow still more to melt but it's finally going away. I can't imagin how much rain you guys must have got on the west side of the mountains well I guess I can I'm originally from the west side 25 years ago.

Bet you are so happy to see dirt !

I always was surprised when spring thaw hit in North Idaho...and we had 2 dogs and 6-8 puppies and then the snow thawed and we had 7 months of dog doo from all 10 dogs, all very close to the house (they did not wander too far off to do their dooty !)

And suddenly one day it was warm enough to smell things again.............................

Likewise with the outhouse.............we had a porta potty in the cabin, and dumped it in the outhouse periodically, but with the below zero weather, THINGS would freeze into a giant pointy sculpture....

.................frozen solid and it would get real close to you when you sat down to go...

............so we'd have to knock it down with a shovel every so often...we'd pick one of us to do the knock down.....

Then one fine day in April...the thaw begins...the river ice breaks up, the perma frost traps all the snow melt and makes quick sand, and suddenly you can smell things again...the air is warm enough...and PEE UUUUUUUUUUUUUU.....enough said !

So far, I'm guessing more pullets than cockerel. Bummed that all three of the Buff Orpington chicks are male. So far they are the friendliest and sweetest of all of them!
