Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Is anybody else’s girls molting again? All of those who were going to molt did it this fall but with the change in weather I have a whole bunch that are molting again. So far all of them were girls who did it in the fall. My leghorn is not molting as much as she did in the fall; she is a hard molter, but her whole neck and tail feathers. I feel terrible for them.
I have one living in the kitchen now for the past couple of weeks. Let her out in the day time to hang with the girls but she now scoots back when the cold bursts and hail comes. Smart girl. Never seen a molt like it. She would have froze. BTW...she likes house living. I made a little cage in the corner but she goes in and out. I was un prepared for this and didn't have anywhere else to keep her warm and safe. Let me tell you....she is eating good. She begs at the base of the table for breakfast scraps with the dog. Good grief.

I have a hen who broke her femur and she is a part time house chicken. We have two dog crates set up for nursing purposes. Or whenever I get soft and sneak someone in. I have at least 5 molting right now.

Well heck, my chicken is sick again. She is staggering around, can barely walk. She keeps falling forward like her head is too heavy. I’m really worried about her. I might even take her to the vet. I don’t want to give up on her yet. She has a great personality and she tries so hard. She eats like crazy, laid an egg yesterday.
