Such ans awesome Cerelean Blue color..........I am so ready for planting !

if I have 1 more day like today get my bulbs planted nothing here as of yet when I see the mint next to the pumphouse sprout i can plant seeds outside

Wheaten ? What a beautiful photo !

Nope. Partridge. Just has two copies of Lavender gene. Not a standard color in any way but it is reproducible.

Took me forever to figure out what was going on. One of my original birds must have been carrying a single copy of it. Several generations down, finally mated descendants that each had a copy.

I have two of these girls. This was the younger one. She's a little darker so easy for me to tell them apart if I look.

I have ordered from hatcheries all my life and never had more than 1 or 2 die in that whole time, and in the case of McMurray they will credit you those lost in your next order..like if I have a next order.but if I lost as many as mixedbreeds did, I would demand an entire order be sent. That is just awful !

funny I have many from feed store but never from a hatchery but seems thewy all want at least 50 birds shipped per order

These guys want a 25 bird order but that was fine as I ordered 30 Cornish X. I’m up to 13 dead now with 3 more that probably are not going to make it. It would have been worse but I have been working with them all day with eye dropper with nutri drench and water. They were so cold they didn’t want to come from the heat they are finally starting to eat. I have never had anything like this happen before.

think if I can get the eggs in hova bator to hatch that is good enough for me I have 3 from there under Mud but headed up to see if Dirt has also gone broody pull 4 to give here then

Well after working with the chicks all day yesterday still ended up with 18 dead out of 37 what a bummer. I called Dunlap hatchery this morning and no questions asked they are going to reship the order next week. I don’t know what happened but even the live chicks were cold to the touch yesterday when I was taking them out of the box. Lost 6 more last night they are part of the total lost but there were around 10 of them I was working with yesterday that were not doing well so I guess I saved a few of them.

this Dunlap is Idaho ? hey got bit by a silky this morning went up with the rest of the marans eggs from the hova bator moved one Slime to another nest but when I did that
mud bit me while my had was in there :gig

Yes they are in Caldwell Idaho. So you have a killer silky I thought they were all sweet and nice. I have a broody australorp that used to be nasty but now when she is broody like now I can pet her move her what ever and she doesn’t peck or anything.

I have never had that happen to me, but I have seen it happen to other people. And it usually involves some heartless truck driver who either hates the nosiy little peeps or just plain does not think it is his responsibility to protect them at all, he just drives the truck & does not care if he is stuck in a blizzard with some tiny baby chicks.
I did have an order shipped in one February that I was waiting for at the Post Office to get on a Monday morning,,, then we got a call from the Olympia sorting facility on SUNDAY that my chicks were there & did I want to get them now or wait til tomorrow ?
Of course we went to get them !
The employee who called opened the high security gates to let us in to get the box. I was amazed at how thoughtful & kind he was.he even had the box in the employees room by a heater !

Had some best friends a few miles away get hit from mink 2 days in a row, typical mink attacks !
They have a dirt floor in the coop (I did not know that) and lots of straw, deep litter (I did not know that either) and the mink burrowed in & under & popped in the coop and killed a couple one night. Then yesterday eve they went to bed leaving the window open to hear, and sure enough at 10 PM they heard the ruckus & ran out with guns & flashlights & saw a weaselly mink hiding in a corner that had not gone back down the hole.
And 6 more dead birds.
:hit
They had not seen the hold before but there it was !
What to do now ?
I told them to put a floor in their coop !
If nothing else, take the hay out, add hardware wire the entire bottom, stapled at walls so no critter can dig in & push up....
Then add the hay back.
I am not a fan of the dirt floor at all.
Not around here !
But guess I better set more eggs for hatching !
