Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I used to want a German Shepherd or Siberian husky, but my plans are to hopefully adopt a rescue from a shelter. I like to know that something needs me, like adopting a dog with a certain disability they need love and care.

is it a stereotype that Siberian huskies are really high maintenance?😅
They like to run and they are famous escape artists! :gig

for 40years , we have always had Rottweilers, 6 over the years. They were such good family dogs and great with the kids
We currently have Ziva dog #5 and Tony dog #6. They are brother and sister. Ziva is 3 and Tony is 2, same dad different mom. I got them from my friend Pattee in Idaho, Templinhaus Rottweilers. They love the grandkids! At our age I dont think we can raise big dog puppies anymore. So these 2 will be out last big dogs.

Well he is pretty cute! I don’t have ducks so can offer no good solution. As long as you’re upfront with people who may want him, go ahead and try to rehome him. If you’re ok with him being food, do you have a wildlife shelter or rehab place nearby? We have one that’s really handy for unwanted roosters. Serves a good purpose too.
As far as keeping him separately yourself, only you can decide if you’re up to that. Someone here says “solve for the peace of the flock”. You are the most essential part of your flock so your serenity is the most important consideration. You obviously love him, I’m sorry he doesn’t have better manners! And welcome to the thread! What part of the state do you call home?
Thanks for the reply! I’m in unincorporated Pierce Co, east of Tacoma. 🙂 yesterday, someone contacted me and she is going to adopt Frank. She has been wanting a Pekin drake to add to her flock. She sent me photos of her property and flock, so I feel pretty good about it.

I know he’s hormonal and young drakes are notoriously bad. I should have mentioned that he harmed one of the other girls last spring, and we did drake jail for a few weeks, and he was okay for a while, but then recently harmed two more of our females. I hope he has a long happy life in his new home

Keeping with the pup theme...my "attention hound", Vali, is a Staffy for the most part. He has a poo emoji at the base of his tail, but is otherwise white (with black freckles on his skin, but not in his fur). Also pictured there are my kiddos, they went yesterday and had their first Covid Vaccines. I tweaked my back trying to hold them as my normally well-behaved shot takers turned into crying, writhing wet noodles! My son dislocated his shoulder to avoid the jab the first try, totally popped it out of joint and moved his arm behind his body! My husband, who was supposed to be in charge of his shot, said he thought if he could, our son would have removed his arm to avoid it. Once wrestled (and lied to about "ok, they won't do it), both kids realized it wasn't that bad at all and were perfectly happy again after getting a certificate from the state, a sucker, and a couple of fun stickers. We also got them hot chocolate on the way home because that's our deal with them...they get Starbucks every time they get a shot.

My chicken "adventures" this week have been...eventful. After they started flipping things over in the coop (boredom and unsecured nest boxes...my fault I know), I have been dealing with crushed eggs, egg eaters, egg soccer on the regular...went out yesterday in the rain and put up some scrap wood to secure the grey milk crate to the wall/floor and put up the second wall-mounted box (had it for weeks and hadn't got it up yet). So naturally, they immediately started laying on the floor instead. Blocked the floor spot with a crate...I could not get t out easily, thought "that'll hold until I can get a couple more wall-mounted boxes", boy was I wrong! They managed to flip the white crate and out of 8 eggs already laid today, 6 of them were on the ground! So, I added more scrap wood and "hopefully" it will stop the flipping.

While out there, noticed one of my white Leghorns is covered in blood...she's a red leghorn now. 🤦‍♀️ Gotta come in and get a crate, will bring her into the house to get a "spit bath" with some warm water and get her head coated in Hen Healer, I'd like to avoid BluKote on my white bird...I think dying her purple would defeat the purpose of protecting againt pecking. Also, it's on the top of her head and I don't want to be spraying anything near her eyes. Normally, I do all wound care out there because it's less stressful, but I need a good look at this one I think.

It's been one heck of a week and my weeks are only getting busier. Gotta "train" my husband this week to take care of the chickens next weekend, I have to go out of town (my mom is having an angiogram and so can't fly up for her visit, she was supposed to be here Thursday afternoon, so my daughter and I are driving down to pick her up! Then, it's home for multiple appointments for myself while we wait to hear about when my daughter is having surgery. Hoping it is well after my Mom now...sometime after Thanksgiving my mom is going to be having open heart surgery and I will need to be there for that (I'm her medical POA because her husband can't get into the hospital, he hasn't been medically cleared for the vaccine yet). So much stress...but, that's part of why we got chickens. Even though I complain and they definitely add to my daily workload, they are a calming factor in our lives as well.

Happy weekend all!
