Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Talk about chickens who don't go in at night, all my Sapphire Gem girls decided to roost on the roof of their 4' high coop tonight. Found them up there and had to encourage them to where I could reach them and park them on the roosts. These teens! I would have left them up there, were it not for the coop being next to the apple tree, which raccoons can climb, so they wouldn't be safe at night. :barnie

A good rooster will call his girls to roost.
Good morning hot here again .. I do hope and pray they can get a handle on the fires
Guess I didn't have a good rooster, well, he died, so maybe that's why they did that? He was not doing his job, or they weren't listening to him, even before he died. The older girls always go to roost way before these Teenagers! These want to stay up late last their bedtime.

In your experience, do barnyard mixes have less health issues?
My last ISA and Golden Comet have what I believe is water belly. Both are just over 2 years old. I have read that this is common for such breeds. They have been wonderful layers and girls, the ISA was queen. She even tried to fend off the rooster when he tried to fight me. It'll be sad when they go, but such is our chicken keeper lives.

Hi all - been awhile since I posted - have since finished the nesting boxes on the side of the coup and we now have 5 out of six hens laying daily - 5 eggs a day for the last few days!
