Yay! DH finished the gate. Project complete, chooks and I very happy. Question for you. Will a white chicken lay white eggs? Dad is a Sapphire Gem. Not sure which is her mom. She has a few gray feathers on her wings. 16 wks. Old in 2 days. Recessive white genes.
Any guesses who mom might be?: ISA Brown, golden comet, Welsummer, Black sex link, Sapphire Gem, or a BCM x cream legbar? How about this cockerel (broodmate)? Same dad.

Feather color has no bearing on egg color. Some breeds the earlobe color will match but there are enough other breeds where it doesn't. Have to know what egg genetics the bird has to know egg color.

Example is silkies lay a tinted egg which is light tan. They have turquoise earlobes. I've managed to breed silkies that lay light green or blue eggs. I bred an ameraucana into them then have been breeding back to silkie. All my girls only have 1 copy of the blue egg gene so far.

Good Friday morning! I slept in hahaha 5:50 woohoo it is 29 on the back porch,
got the morning routine done and going for my second cup of blessed coffee,
boy was it nice yesterday!
I am going to have to hit the market today, I thought! I had got everything I needed last Tuesday and would NOT have to go back to town for 2 weeks ,,bummer,,

I had a wonderful stroll through walmart, DH didnt go so I really took my time. this is a GREAT non dairy whip cream we love it.

Then I went to Central Market, gosh everyone was so polite and a joy to shop with even though it was crowded. Neither store had GF apple pie or any GF pie- and the shelf was empty of GF pie crust mix.

I did find maraschino cherries without red dye - the red dye affects the grandkids in a VERY BAD way- if they eat it they turn angry, spastic, and uncontrollable and it is not their fault and they cant control them selves.



Its 26 out, wood stoves hot and coffees ready Have a Great Day!

We picked berries over the summer, now we have a chest freezer full of them.

Nice to have blackberry pie in January.

Ditto. Mine will come out in any weather for treats, though. Treats in snow = mini automatic snowplows. They don't mind light rain, but will shelter otherwise, like under some of my DH's big yard ornaments.
