Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My ducks get their grit and 20230719_155015.jpg calcium from eating the crushed limestone on the driveway.
These youngsters have found the layer that is under the grass.

Picked my first zucchini. Not sure of the variety becaused it was in a mixed variety seed packet. Pulled up a turnip, but looks like some kind of bug or worm was chewing on it. Probably has a worm or two tunneling into it. And got egg #4 this morning. It was on the run floor, not in the nest box. And tiny. Only weighed 17 grams.

And my chickens now have access to grit and oyster shells. Put together some dispenser boxes yesterday.

Bill I had that same mixture and I think those are my favorite ones. This year I bought a pack of what looked like them and they just started producing and yep they’re the same kind! Last night we cut some in half lengthwise and grilled them and boy were they yummy!

Thanks! And yes, I'm pretty sure the packet was Ed Hume seeds. The Clarinette Lebanese zucchini was the only one that thrived, right from the start. None of the others grew well. I should probably go to the store and buy a packet of those if they still have any. I'm sure they'd still be good for next year's garden.

My cockerel alarm clock woke me up at 5:30, so I was out in the garden checking things out. And I do have one of those zucchinis to pick today. I like them sliced, seasoned with salt and pepper, coated with flour and fried.

you could save some of the seed from one of the squashes

Have any of you have a mother hen feather pick the chick? the chicks is almost 5 weeks and 4 weeks.
She has chick feed, they have Kalmbach plumage feed and the regular layer feed,
she is not starving,,, and she is ticking me off about it

That's a weird problem if they have plenty of protein.

Ive never had issues with a hen past the first couple days. I also never let them have chicks again if I had issues. I always have a broody silkie or six so I can just take the babies and give them to a good mom. I've only had issues with some large fowl breeds or EEs with only a little silkie blood.
