Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Do any of you know someone within an hour of Clark County that's currently looking to add 2 five month old pullets to their flock? I'm only asking $20 for both to quickly find them a home. One is a white leghorn and the other is a new Hampshire red

There‘s an auction place in Woodland that will take them. They auction on Thursdays. You would drop off on a Wednesday. PM for details.

Also, I just sold 2 of my extras by putting something on my local FB page. You might try that too.

My shift got changed to morning so I now work from 10am-5pm

I probably missed the relevance of this. You don't actually need to be there for the auction. On both Wednesday and Thursday, the auction place is open until 7pm. You could drop off on Wednesday after work. I'm not sure what happens if you don't sell the chickens. You'd probably have to pick up on Thursday.

In the meantime, maybe try posting on your local community FB page. FB marketplace doesn't allow poultry sales, but we've been able to get around that by using the community page.

I saw a chipmunk yesterday for the first time ever at my place. It was about 25 feet from my garden, sunning on an old pallet. I haven't seen any chipmunk damage to my garden yet though.

I messed up a little with the lettuce seedlings I transplanted a few days ago. They looked good yesterday morning, but I should have watered them. Yesterday afternoon they all looked shriveled and dead. I watered them, and this morning they're looking better, but I think some of the bigger leaves are going to drop off.

My two cockerels' hormones are starting to kick in. They're starting to get more aggressive towards the pullets, chasing them around for a romp, when when pullets want nothing to do with it. I'm thinking about separating the cockerels for a while, until all the pullets have matured more. The cockerels are going after pullets who's comb and wattles haven't grown out yet, which probably isn't a good thing.
You want to separate them until they get older. It's not the pullets, it's the cockerels that are the problem. They are over zealous right now and will be for a few more months. You need a completely separate area for them for a while, I'm afraid. I have a dedicated cockerel run and coop just for such occasions.

Good morning up at 8.
Woke the main coop up.
Lucky you. I used to think hearing my roosters crow in the morning was cool. Now, 5AM or 5:30AM every morning, crowing about 30 feet from my bedroom window wakes me up when I want to keep sleeping. Ughh!

Oh well. I wanted roosters. Need to be more careful what I wish for in the future.

Yeah, the pullets are being victimized. I already have a good setup to separate the cockerels. They will get the coop and the new run, the pullets will have the big secure run right next door.

I'll replace the mesh wall with the plywood panel so they can't see each other. No sense frustrating the cockerels any more than necessary. The tough part will be getting them separated. I'll have to do some creative chicken wrangling.

Maybe tonight when I let them out to free range I'll try letting only the pullets out, which I think could work. The cockerels are still nervous around me and keep their distance. If I'm in the run when I open the door I think I can prevent the cockerels from running outside.

Once separated I can coax them into the coop and put up the plywood wall.

I normally don't clock out until 6 due to restocking and then by the time I'd get up to the auction place with evening traffic, they'd be closed.
And I've posted all over. People keep asking me if they're free since they're not rare breeds or worth the price

Tried something new today. I sprayed a few European paper wasp nests that were around my front door of the house.

I used a mix of about 1 teaspoon liquid Dawn dish detergent and a cup of water. Nothing else. Man, that stuff is effective! Many of the wasps were dead within 15 seconds, and a few lasted longer. I sprayed them a little more and finished them off.

The paper nests were covered with live wasps when I sprayed, and not one flew off the nest when they were hit with the first spray of the Dawn solution. I couldn't believe it worked so well!

I knocked the nests down and smashed them because they were full of larvae.
