Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I have an appointment with the ophthalmologist in an hour. I haven't had my eyes checked out for several years. Macular degeneration runs in the family, unfortunately.

I just wetted down all the woodchips in the chicken runs again. That should keep them cooler for a couple more hours. I'll soak it again in a couple hours.

Wetting down the woodchips should also bring the bacteria and fungus to life, so it can go to work composting the chicken crap and wood.

What does that mean, a closed coop? Five days is not a very long quarantine. They usually suggest 30, which was my original intent, but not now. I think if they can all share a coop nicely tonight he will just be in the flock now.

Also, Cooper is not aggressive at all. He is extremely timid.

Eventually, I will cull Pippi. He has not been well for a long time. I may do it earlier if the two cannot get along. Pippi not doing his job anymore so time for the new one to take over. I will work toward that end.

I had to remove Smudge when he was not fertilizing his girls eggs anymore.
This is what I did in the heat today.

I saw a chipmunk yesterday for the first time ever at my place. It was about 25 feet from my garden, sunning on an old pallet. I haven't seen any chipmunk damage to my garden yet though.

I messed up a little with the lettuce seedlings I transplanted a few days ago. They looked good yesterday morning, but I should have watered them. Yesterday afternoon they all looked shriveled and dead. I watered them, and this morning they're looking better, but I think some of the bigger leaves are going to drop off.

My two cockerels' hormones are starting to kick in. They're starting to get more aggressive towards the pullets, chasing them around for a romp, when when pullets want nothing to do with it. I'm thinking about separating the cockerels for a while, until all the pullets have matured more. The cockerels are going after pullets who's comb and wattles haven't grown out yet, which probably isn't a good thing.
Maybe give your poor lettuce seedlings shade, at least for the next few hot days. Oh, those teenage boys! I locked mine up for several months.
Talk about garden damage. My potatoes were gnawed underground, so I dug them all up. The stink bugs deformed a lot of my peaches, and it happens early on. The heat is drying everything out quickly. Water and more. A good cat should keep the chipmunks at bay. My cat caught and played with a shrew until it could no longer run. I threw it to the chickens, who played rugby for a short bit, then it got eaten.

Well two more days of the stupid weather, if we all wanted heat we would live in the southwest ,,, but we don’t want heat,

I like my 45 degree gray fog mist
Yeah, but when it's a cold, slow spring, we say hurry up warm weather. My weather app forecast for September shows a range of daytime 70's. I agree, it is too hot.
