Lost one of our girls this weekend Clair (brown leghorn) she was just 2 years old . Not sure what happened to her but she stopped laying eggs back in March. I walked out to the Coop yesterday morning to let them all out of the coops and there she was. Looks like she just laid down and went to sleep and didn't wake back up. I checked her over and no bugs etc... and she was a good weight. So I'm at a loss as to what happened to her.

I’m so sorry you lost her! My Brown Leghorn was my favorite hen!

I'm sorry. That always sucks to find them on the roost with head tucked.

So sorry you lost Clair. I actually prefer to lose a chicken the way you lost Clair, I must say. I want to think they just lay down and go to sleep. It's so hard to say good bye to the little darlings. ❤️

I have lost two leghorns this year to heart disease, or whatever caused their ascites. Not such an easy way to go.

I got the cornstarch gel carrot seeds planted, took a break, then went out and picked the red Russian kale. The leaves filled one side of the kitchen sink to overflowing.

I filled two 1 gallon bags with the trimmed leaves for the freezer and have the chopped up stems cooking on the stove. I read that the stem has as much nutrition as the rest of the kale leaf. Waste not, want not...

There will probably be nearly that much kale to pick again in a few weeks. Picking lettuce will have to wait until tomorrow.
