Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

They've been confined to their coop and two runs since spring of this year.
My chickens made a liar out of me. Yesterday evening, for the first time ever, one of my hens escaped from the day run and was foraging in the yard near the coop. It was late, so I decided to let the other five girls out to forage for grass and bugs till it was roosting time, 20 or 30 minutes total.

I'm pretty sure I found the day run escape route. I'll secure it before I let the girls back in. The hen that escaped was the one I'd expect to get out. She has a totally different personality than the others, seems more self-aware, and is much less satisfied with confinement. To her the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. And actually, she's right about that.

I cooked all those mushrooms I picked yesterday and froze them in 1 cup containers. I see steak and mushrooms in the future.

Avian flu found in South Kitsap. I live in the watch area surrounding it. 🥺

I have one girl under the weather. She is finishing her molt, after having a bald head, neck and rear all summer. Her poo was yellowish, and dirty bum. I decided to give all of them Valbazen. She got a direct dose. Could be she's having egg issues, as she hasn't laid for a few months. She was in the nesting box this afternoon, tail down and back feathers ruffled. Will check on her in the morning.
Found blood on a roost and in the shavings. Not sure who was bleeding, or what could have happened last night. Strange....any ideas?

Wow, she is having a rough molt. My girls don't lay much when they are molting. I have one that has lost a lot of tail feathers and tends to hide out in the coop. She certainly doesn't want Cooper on her and I think one of the other girls was picking on her. She's not laying at all either that I can tell.

As for the blood, I guess I'd be going in and taking each off the roost and see if I could find out the cause of it.

She died overnight. 😭 crazy thing is that 2 girls laid eggs in the box she was in.
