Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

This afternoon I stirred around the rotted woodchips that the chicks are living on, made some big hills and valleys (to them, anyway) to explore.

One of them found a little earthworm a couple inches long.

Chickens are stupid from the hatch.

First thing it did was start running around, starting the keep-away game, and signaling to the others she had something to hide. Luckily, she kept it until she felt safe to swallow the thing.

Why don't they just play it cool. Pick up the worm then calmly swallow it. None of the others would have a clue that they missed out.

Got my tomato starts moved into seed cells, along with a dozen more bok choi plants. And finished mowing the yard.

I'm going to start giving the chicks few ounces of starter crumbles mixed with water every morning to cut down on waste. Dry crumbles end up getting lost in the woodchips. They eat the moist crumbles like it's a treat.

Cleaned and refilled the big girls' water bucket. I screwed up and let it go empty this morning. :he

I raked up several piles of grass clippings from mowing yesterday. I'll used them to mulch the garden today after I pull out all the little weeds.

Ah, DH is mowing the lawn today, second time this year. He used the weed eater last week. Not sure if he will today.

I'm having a cooking day. Making Guyanese Pepperpot now and will make an egg casserole later that needs to refrigerate for 8 to 24 hours before baking. Then later I'm making smothered burritos for dinner. If I have time, I'll fit in making a couple dressings, but may leave that until tomorrow. We have enough until then.
