Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Cooper was never rough with the hens here, but he would have killed Ralphie if he could. I think part of that aggression was being in an adjacent pen for so long. He built up a tremendous hatred. I wouldn't do it again. But, this is how we figure things out. So much guessing goes on raising chickens. Get all the advice we can and then just try something.

I did get a pair of plain pumps I could wear, so I have something. I'd rather find a more appropriate evening shoe, but I keep reminding myself that I'm grandma. No one is going to be worried about what I'm wearing. lol

By the way @Smokerbill , I made some of the dilly beans from the recipe you shared on here. They are really very good. Now I want to make some without the sugar. I'm not crazy about having any sugar in my diet and I think they will be very good with just the spicy dill flavoring.

Cooper just about killed his brother when I had them both. The defeated cockerel was hiding in a corner with his head buried in a hole to hide.

I sat in the run for a while today and saw the dominant cockerel mate with a different pullet today. It was a rather gentle interaction. LOL.

Good deal on the shoes. My dress shoes these days are new(ish) black tennis shoes. If someone has a problem with the shoes I wear, they are worrying about the wrong things.

Glad you liked them. Were they crispy enough for you?

Oh, and this is the recipe I used for dill pickles. I think it makes great tasting pickles.

BRINE (enough for four pints)
1 pint vinegar
2Tbs+2tsp salt
1 Tbs sugar
2 and 2/3 cups water

INTO JAR WITH CUKES
mustard seeds
dill heads
garlic

1.5 dill head per pint
1.5 tsp must seed pint
1 clove garlic pint

10 minute boiling water process
or for firmer pickles...
30 minute low temp process at 180-185 degrees

I only made one jar and did not water bath it at all. So definitely crunchy enough for me. I probably won't eat any more than the two I had today, but told DH to finish them in a week or two. Not sure how long they will last. When I make some without sugar, I'll definitely help eat them. I think they would be excellent on my dinner salad.

It's definitely not evergreen over here, at least the yard. Grass hasn't grown for months, I only have to mow down the weeds every so often.

I'm making this with cranberries I've had in the freezer for close to two years. I hope it tastes OK.

Looks like it could be good. Still green here, but we do water the lawn. And that means we have to mow it. We have our share of weeds too. Impossible to get rid of with neighbors who don't even try. Oh well, they are green. Mow 'em.
