Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We finally put out our Christmas lights. No rain today. And we actually got 3 eggs today fist time this month been only getting 1 or 2 a day lately. none of the littles have laid yet still thinking spring before they will lay and their combs are getting redder but who knows they are now six months old. All of the easter eggers have stopped laying. haven't had a green egg in over a month and noticed that their combs are a little paler. So its my barried rocks laying and someone else but not sure who... on a Good note one of the eggs i opened this morning for breakfast was fertilized. I finally saw my first ring on the yolk so BigUm's is doing the do. Had to put a chicken apron on one of my easter eggers BigUm's favorite for some reason. He just loves chasing this girl down poor thing her back feathers were so ragged couldn't tell if it was from him or from molting.. maybe a bit of both. But she has lost a lot of weight and hides from his attention. But since I put the apron on her she is looking better well at least her feathers do but she is still skinny. Been given them all extra protein and they are on feather fixer 18% protein feed. should I separate her?? no one else is losing weight just her and she is about 9 or 10 months old all of my ee are the same age and none of them are having this issue.

I wouldn't separate her unless she acts sick. Great idea to put the apron on her though. My guess is she is hiding from the rooster because he is over-mating her. If there is a way to do so, make sure she is not being kept from food.

I think tomorrow I'm gonna go out and pull her a side and feed her separately just to make sure she is getting feed right since I know she has stopped laying eggs for right now. Then again I think I'll just go put him in the out house... LOL the coop out side the run so he can't bother her or any of the other girls for right now. I just know he dos't like the batcher pad LOL

My hens have cut back on laying eggs too. It happens every winter. Shorter days means fewer eggs.

I missed that this is a cockerel with the girls. They can be a little hormonal. I often separate them until they are older and calmer, and sometimes that takes a year.
