Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I can definately confirm. Several angels arrived on my property last summer and I now have 2 mud free covered runs. My chickens are in heaven. But alas I find my self wanting another coop too. I could be easily convinced to share the fuel charge if said angels were willing to build another of those small coops that Sadie and Robin have?
If VF does come out to build for you and for the new Renton person, I know I could probably get Wende (Flaming Chicken's and my mutual friend, who we dropped my VF coop on by accident) in, and I might have something to add too. And I'll even help, if needed.

Check with your city for stuff like that - our Mayor told us we are to report all violations by calling 911 and requesting the city police department. If we don't request the city - dispatch might send county. Every incident in our city is a 911 call - even suspicious salesman. There's a huge problem with salesmen stopping by houses, then burglarizing them if no one answers the door. We were told to ask to see a permit, and if the salesman doesn't have one, call 911 and ask for city police.

hmm I thought that was for "emergency"s only?? Think of how the 911 system gets bogged down with calls that could be handled differently? just wondering, but thanks for the info

Then you can "highlight" unwanted portions and touch backspace. POW gone!!!

Gee Thanks Rob!!! I got that one I'm talking about picking out a quote in the middle of a bunch of them?
You click the quote button and then go in and delete anything you don't want to quote :) That is how I do it anyway.

ok I'll try it, but I'm not the most computer literate person around. Or I run out of patience! lol!

I have heard certain rumors of folks on this message board packing up their tools, driving to your location and building you a coop with the supply list the builder provided you. The builder only asked to be reimbursed for the fuel necessary to get to/from your location. I believe there are at least five people on this message board who can collaborate my story.

I plead not guilty of chicken-enabling by reason of insanity.

I'll vouch for that!!! We love our VF chicken run so much! Keeps the girls completely sheltered during hot or cold spells and it's super sturdy!

I'd like to offer my chicken library to the peeps here for borrowing. I'll write my name and address in all the books
and if you want to come borrow any of them, let me know! Here's what I have:
The Chicken Health Handbook by Gail Damerow
The Joy of Keeping Chickens by Jennifer Megyesi
Free-Range Chicken Gardens by Jessi Bloom
A Chicken in Every Yard by Robert & Hannah Litt
The Chicken Encyclopedia by Gail Damerow
Keeping Chickens by Ashley English
Storey's Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds by Carol Ekarius
Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens by Gail Damerow

and Backyard Homesteading by David Toht (which isn't entirely about chickens but it does touch on them)

I also have a couple children's book that help small children get through those chick days and know what to expect. They're adorable and full photography, not illustrated.
Chick Days; An Absolute Beginner's Guide, Raising Chickens from Hatchlings to Laying Hens by Jenna Woginrich
Discovery Kids:Change and Grow, Chick to Hen
You need to add "Just a Couple of Chickens" By Corinne Tippett. I managed to get 3 signed copies. I still have one but just don't get into reading books. THose who have read the book say it is very good / funny.

I have an issue offing the non-mean ones. The mean silkie cockerel and two mean pullets weren't an issue. Niceness is the only reason the head rooster out there is still alive. I had him ready and everything and couldn't do it. Then he was the only boy to survive the dog attack and got a waver from DH. He's not aggressive and gives all treats to the girls, but I wasn't planning on keeping him. Now I have four of his sons who will have to go too when they grow up.

The little 7 week old silkie cockerel will have to go, as well most likely. I wouldn't even know it was a cockerel, but it has a red comb and the feathers look cuckoo. The father is blue so that didn't come from him. If the other three end up being girls, we'll see on it. The cream colored one has a bad foot that I couldn't get to correct, but is so cute. I hope it's a girl. It's been handled enough to be calm when I pick it up.
