Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Wow, That would be interseting to deal with. We had unwanted people on our property to!
Last night we had to men show up at our door after dark. One with a flashlight, they were asking about the house on the front of our property right off of the street. I talked to them for a few minutes and then asked them to leave. We were not to happy to find out that they had been walking around our property with out us knowing about it and had been looking into my chicken coop and everything after they had been searching the house on the front of the property.
Then today around 12 one of them came back and I really did not like that. Coming back when there is a possibilety that I was home alone or that no one was here! I got my CPL the other day and so I have been carrying which made me feel a lot better. And trust me I made sure he saw what I had. He asked questions like "are you home alone?" to which I said no my BIL is here which was a lie no one was here, then "do you have large dogs?" I said, "yes two very big dogs, great dane and mastiff and they hate strangers on our property". He then was talking about being in some sort of construction and that is why he was asking about the house (lastnight they were asking if it was for sale) but that he was not looking to buy it, as he was telling me that he carried his tools every where with him in his truck he walked over to his truck and opend the back gate (had a canopy on it) which was facing us, to so me his tools, right away I put my hand on my gun and made sure I was not in between him and his truck. He asked if we would want him to do any work on the house for us and I told him to give me his info so I could give it to DH (and the cops if need be) Then I asked him to leave, as he did DH just happend to call and the first thing I said was "hurry write this down" and gave him the license plat number. I also told him the make, moddle, color and year of the truck everything we would need for the cops, again if needed.
This was a very unsettling situation.

This is scarey !
The raiders next door carry their tools around too...so they can strip the house.
Inside, the house has sheet rock cut out so they could get at the copper plumbing, and wiring.
Hopefully you get the message across to keep them away !!!!
The last house we lived in we had to wait to hook up anything to water because someone had gone in and taken all the copper pipe. They replaced it with some sort of rubber red and blue hoseing. Also we used to have to hide or take home all the copper piping from job sites because people would break into the job site and take it.
Einstein walks around with his 9mm on his belt....I have my 94 next to the bed, fully loaded.
The big guns are hidden away.
Sometimes the 2 of us go shoot the crap out of the big tree down the driveway, sounds like a war...just to let them know we are here on the other side of the fence, which is covered with dead fall (and that huge downed spruce)
From next door, you'd never know we were here !
I love having my gun on me when I am alone and when it is just me and the kids.
Being able to walk out our door and practice shooting is one reason we are looking for a property out of city limits! And so I can shoot any coyote that come to take my chickens.

I saw a sign for a front door (or back) one time, it was hilarious and so true. It read: Our alarm system will go off it you break in. It will sound like gunfire and hurt a lot"

I wish I'd bought the sign, I've never seen another one like it!
I have plans to make a few signs like that. There is also a target that I want, it is the standard body shape and it says there is nothing on this property worth your life! There is also another one I want to make for the bathroom (for the boys) "If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be sweet and wipe the seat." LOL
Quote: I agree I am more scared of people than I am of any animal. I know which animals not to mess with and others that you think are ok give you warning signs that they will attack. Where as you never know with people.
Here is a story I wanted to share with you!

DH has always lived in the city. I have been trying to convince him for years that we need to just high-tail it to BFE and live without the craziness (i.e. drunk truck drivers) not to mention Hilltop Tacoma has never been my dream spot.

Half of me came from a family that lived for open air and potato farmin' - it's in my blood! Little did I know that all it took to convince DH, was my DAD! They had one beer and by the time I interrupted that conversation - DH finally lit up like a light bulb! It was the best look I have ever seen! He realized we were working for nothing. How all of our money goes to pay for gas just to make enough to pay a few bills. A few bills we wouldn't have to have!!!

I'm excited that our property search can expand now to the far reaches and I don't have to be tied to a city!! YAY!

Marital bliss right here! Can you imagine how many chickens I could have!!
That is great news, we have been looking for a place out in BFE, but because of needing so many rooms (6) and at least a MIL apartment for my DH's brother and his wife, a shop (or at least 2 car garage for DH) and a barn for horses it is making it really hard to find a place that fits us in our price range. Good luck and have lost of fun finding a place, I think it is really exciting looking at all these houses.
Quote: Yes, I did report it. Not only for the neighbors, but also so that they know if these guys break in that we have had a problem with them here before.
Quote: DH said the same thing when I told him what happend. And I am a bit mad at myself for not pulling it out. I was very short with they guy and he made a comment that he could see that I was not happy with him being here. Hopfuly I made it clear enough to him not to come back.
I ran out the door so fast that I must have just shut the door behind me cause I looked back to see if they were there and they were in the house barking. But I had my gun so I did not go back to get them. We have had so many people go into the front house, my kids were riding their bikes up and down our driveway into the street (we live on a dead end road) and they all came running in the house yelling that some guy was in the front house. We let both the dogs out and they knew right where to go, these dogs run so fast that the were out there in a heart beat. When we got out there they had the guy cornered against the side of the house and he was scared out of his mind and freeking out. I called the dogs off and he fave all his excueses and then I threatend to give the dog an ok to get him and he appoligized and said he was wrong and would never come back here again! I love my dogs.
I really like Yorkies, I would love one but have found through trial and error that I am just a BIG dog person. Sorry that some of the homes have fallen through for them.

Quote: When I was a kid, my parents (together at that point) and I were doing yard work in our front yard (right on the main road) and about 4 teens walked up and asked if there was anything that they could do to earn some money. My parents gave them a list and a day to come do them. They came and did the work and were great and did a great job. A week later they broke into our house and robbed us, they had been casing our house when they were doing their work.

Note first, my dad had a weight room in our house that he named and had the name printed on shirts and sweaters and gave them out to family and friends. That leads to this story/
Another time someone broke into my grandma's house, took my grandpa's gun (and used it in a shooting later) and a few t-shirts they liked along with some other stuff. A few weeks after the break in some of my dad's friends were watching COPS and called my dad, because there were a bunch of guys being chased by the cops that were wearing the personalized shirts they stole from my Grandmothers house! They were in another state and were cought!

Quote: Thanks to everyone who jumped on right away and answered me. No they are not on the medicated feed but I will run out tomorrow and get it right away. Thank you so very much!!!! You all are life saving amazing people!

This photo reminds me: one of the most useful items in the home and yard is a good collection of old bricks (I got about a quarter of the chimney at the home of The Rose That Ate Madison Valley when the earthquate destroyed it, besides what's left of the cruddy home-fired ones that were the chimney of the homestead cabin here). They weight things down, prop things up, hold things together temporarily and are heavy enough to do it well while still being light enough for me to move.

Farmin Moma- Medicated feed will not treat an active coccidiosis case (where you have the bloody poo and deaths).

You need to buy Sulmet or Corid (I recommend Corid). I have had them get coccidiosis while on medicated feed and had deaths.

Good luck- I'm bowing out for now.

Well, I'm done did, I am- long day, had to finish cutting the rose canes that were smashing the Tower of Solitude, fill big feeders, and get hay for the sheep and chickens. I also used up some of my limited energy getting righteously PO'ed because when my hired hand got the hay last week, she pulled the bale off the boards that keep it from getting wet, and now I'll have to get hay next week somehow. It was a particularly nice bale for my purposes, too, since it was short-stemmed and had lots of leaf. A bother to handle, but great for the chooks.

I was looking at photos of the rose today, and I've taken out as many canes as it had four years ago, and it still needs another 12" 4x4 burried to support that end of things! I may need to get me a girl chainsaw. I can do this kind of heavy pruning with saw and lopper, but it makes my bendy bits quite sad.

More chick pics... 2 Weeks, 4 days old:

Rocha, in back. Cocoa, in front. Cocoa is the one who pecks me every time I reach in. Cocoa's comb is turning red. Am I wrong in believing Cocoa is a boy?

Blackie...

You can see how small Latte is compared to the others in this pic. Cocoa's not in the picture - and he's the biggest. All four hatched the same day.
Left side: Blackie: Top right: Latte; Bottom right: Rocha

Another size comparison pic.

Top Left: Latte; Top Right: Blackie; Middle Left: Rocha; Bottom Right: Cocoa
