I'm in Spokane Washington and am recently branching into Copper Marans!! I am unable to locate a blue copper maran rooster that is from either the jeane wade or bev davis line... anyone have one, or have suggestions on where to get one?

I have just hatched 4 from a PinkChick Cock (Blue Copper) over Black Copper hens.....and I got 2 blue chicks.
IF both are cockerels, I'll look you up.
Better yet to keep bugging me as I forget !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
I am looking to purchase Blue copper marans hens and a roo in/around my area. I have lots of awesome hens that I'm phasing out to make room for the marans. One in particular is 11 months old and is very very gorgeous and rare! This is my Blue Sumatra!!! I paid quite a bit for her and have had her since she was 6 months old! she's been laying medium sized white eggs like a champ! I'm willing to work out a trade scenario if anyone is interested? Or a cash in hand, local pick-up to allow me resources to purchase the Marans! PM me if you are interested :)... she is a show quality bird from everything that I've read although I allow her to free range my 5 acres and chase bugs all day :)

It is extremely difficult to get a picture of her holding still! lol :)...

I will!! Thank you!! I talked with kim(pink chick) about purchasing one of her blue roos but the logistics of getting him from longview to spokane appear to be un-doable :(... if anyone is making a trip from that direction to my direction let me know!!

Cut up bacon into bits and cook it crispy in the stockpot. Remove bacon and pour off grease.
You can cook minced onion, celery, and carrot in some of the grease at this time if you wish to add it for more flavor, those stay in with the potatoes.
Add cubed potatoes and just enough water to cook them. Cook until potatoes start to dissolve in water.
Add milk, cream, or both to taste. Cream gives better consistancy.
Add bacon back in plus salt and pepper to taste.
If it is to runny, mash up some of the potatoes with your spoon.

I prefer ends and pieces bacon for soup since it's usually thick chunks. Russet potatoes work best, need floury not waxy potatoes. Cream makes the best soup. It really doesn't take that much.
The base soup is just potatoes cooked in water then milk and salt to taste added. You can add anything else from there. Ham is very good in it, too. I've had it with several meats regularly growing up, hamburger, buffalo burger, sausage, deer and elkburger.
Shredded cheese is good added in.
Putting bacon, chives, cheese, and a bit of sour cream in is good, too.
I don't have exact amounts when I make it. Great Grandma made it this way and it was just passed down
I don't make it very often because we tend to eat to much of it. It was a staple a few times a month when I was growing up. Hmm, I was a skinny thing until I left home. Maybe we should eat it more often.
I cheat on making mine.
I steam the cubed taters, in a steamer pot and add to a big soup pot:
Cut up pre-cooked bacon (Costco) and diced onion & granulated garlic.
Cook the O's til clear...
Add some chicken stock, add the steamed taters, add some half & half (fat free half & half OR lactose free milk, if you like) and to thicken I use the instant mashed tater flakes.
This takes about 20 minutes til done...I cheat !

I do the same recipe and add:
1 tsp or less liquid smoke and a can of pink salmon for "Smoked Salmon Chowder"
OR
1-2 cans corn for "Corn Chowder"
OR
several can clam liquor and a bucket of live steamers for "Clam Chowder"
So far, the smoked salmon chowder is a big hit around here.

I thought it looked like a Japanese lion dancer. Very cool!
