Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

It was nice meeting all the people at the show. Lots of tasty food, too. We'd have stayed longer, but my back was starting to act up bad and DH was getting a migraine.
Nice meeting You Too ! ! ! Had a great time, brought home a few things from Larry's table( 2 waterers and some bands) and at the last minute a Quail De-Anver pullet for my hen who is alone. they are both kinda happy to have someone they can relate too....

Built with a 2x4 frame, double plywood walls, insulation all around, and exterior siding, just like a home for people. Two large dogs can easily sleep inside if they get along. Dual Kane heaters and a fixed thermostat in a metal box keep the dogs comfy. The storm flap is a folded-over piece of vinyl carpet runner, held with a metal clamp and weighted at the bottom. The siding needs painting. Now for the bad news. This thing is very big and very heavy. It measures 51" wide by 57" deep, and just a bit extra width at the eaves. You really need a large trailer to pick it up. I am not going to strain my back helping someone load it up and into a pickup truck, if in fact it will even fit. I am moving and need it hauled away. Thanks for looking!

The description of this dog house made me laugh. When we move out to this house nearly twenty years ago, our dog house was about twice the size of this one, and ours even had a covered porch on it. It was bigger than the bed of the small pickup truck that we owned at the time, but the guys got it loaded. It hung over on most of the sides of the truck. So they needed me to drive the truck and dog house out here to Enumclaw. As I was crawling up out of the Green River gorge, something blew in the engine. I knew it was bad, but the truck was still running sort of, and I figured that as long as it kept going, that I was going to get as close to home as I could make it. I manage to get home, and I don't recall the truck ever running after that. We had 2 dogs at the time a Newfoundland, and a Mastiff cross, we needed that doghouse. After the big dogs passed, I sold it to a family, that was going to use it for a goat's house.

Quote: At some point, I am going to come to visit with you, so I will bring you some Crocosima bulbs then. I have a large clump of the bulbs, and my plan is to divide them this year.

We can also start planning a plant swap for the next show in March of 2013.

Quote: I over did it, and I will pay for it. Still I had enough happy pills, to make me function almost like a real person. I glad I got to see you for at least a moment yesterday. I am hoping that things will start to get better, so that I don't have to take so many things to make me functional. I do enjoy being slightly normal at times.

I just wish that I could be normal without the meds. But then I doubt that anybody could keep up with me.

Quote: I now have all the cedars. So my plan is to put them into nursery pots, and winter them over. I will get them to you in March. The last plant pictured isn't nettle. My first reaction to the plant when I saw it, was "that's a nettle". But it's not, and it smells like an herb. I am going to have to do a little research on the plant.

I would love to have a holly tree start. I have a holly tree, that came up after they bull dosed the original tree. But the the tree doesn't produce berries. I believe that holly trees are male and female. So I guess I need to look up what the difference is, so that I really know what I am talking about.

I'm in Spokane Washington and am recently branching into Copper Marans!! I am unable to locate a blue copper maran rooster that is from either the jeane wade or bev davis line... anyone have one, or have suggestions on where to get one?

Thank you!!

Nicole
Welcome to the thread! I am sure that someone here has, or knows who has a Blue Copper Marans.

Quote: Cut up bacon into bits and cook it crispy in the stockpot. Remove bacon and pour off grease.

You can cook minced onion, celery, and carrot in some of the grease at this time if you wish to add it for more flavor, those stay in with the potatoes.

Add cubed potatoes and just enough water to cook them. Cook until potatoes start to dissolve in water.

Add milk, cream, or both to taste. Cream gives better consistancy.

Add bacon back in plus salt and pepper to taste.

If it is to runny, mash up some of the potatoes with your spoon.

I prefer ends and pieces bacon for soup since it's usually thick chunks. Russet potatoes work best, need floury not waxy potatoes. Cream makes the best soup. It really doesn't take that much.

The base soup is just potatoes cooked in water then milk and salt to taste added. You can add anything else from there. Ham is very good in it, too. I've had it with several meats regularly growing up, hamburger, buffalo burger, sausage, deer and elkburger.

Shredded cheese is good added in.

Putting bacon, chives, cheese, and a bit of sour cream in is good, too.

I don't have exact amounts when I make it. Great Grandma made it this way and it was just passed down

I don't make it very often because we tend to eat to much of it. It was a staple a few times a month when I was growing up. Hmm, I was a skinny thing until I left home. Maybe we should eat it more often.
I use instant potatoes, to thicken my soup. I tend to end up with something more potato stew, otherwise I use basically the same recipe.

So, here are the new birds!

Black silkie from Marjorie Best. I had to prove to my husband that she had a beak and eyes, lol. When I got home she was passed out cold in a heap of fluffy feathers and he couldn't find a face in all of it.

White crested Polish hen. I love her! I really really hope she is as healthy as she looks:

Jennifer
Both of your birds are gorgeous. My sister got a Polish crested from me back in 2000, and the last I heard was that she was still the most reliable layer, that my sister had, even though the hen was at least 10 years old at the time.
