Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

OMG, just got home from taking my son to work. Taking Key Pen backroads we came upon a sign that said 'water over roadway' placed about 10 ft from the actual water (hello people who put the sign there). Well, wasn't going to slam on my breaks and we have a big truck so we went for it. Blamo! That was soooo much fun that on the way back, even though I had been warned, I didn't slow down. Bwhahahaha! What the heck, you only live once. OK, CR, I'm sure you will give a lecture and burst my bubble but IT WAS FUN!

When they put the sign there (15 minutes earlier) the water was probably 50 feet away!

Glad you had fun and it didn't cause you any problems.

Public Service Announcement: Please ensure your children are safe in the car!
Nope, not when the car is moving. Nope, not about car seats. But have you thought about the general safety of your vehicle in relation to your young children? I keep being reminded by real life events that cars are dangerous, and not just in an accident!
First, keep a pair of scissors in your car! This ladies young daughter almost strangled to death from playing with seatbelts :(

Also, one of my good friends had a major incident with their vehicle and their daughter. She's 3 and had been told, like the other 4 kids, to go get in the van and buckle up for AWANA. Instead she opened their car and got in the drivers' seat, put hte car in gear, and the car rolled backwards down the driveway, across the street, and through the neighbor's garage door. She's was unharmed but imagine the damage and how scary it was!

Please people, supervise your littles in and around vehicles at all time, they can be deadly even when not in motion.

Not to take away the seriousness of your post. You are sooo right but........
Does keeping the kids alive count towards carrying scissors?

I was finally able to sleep last night! Slept 9 hours. I was long overdue. Finally broke down and had a little help but it was worth it.

One thing I heard helps you fall asleep is to count 1 as you breath in and 2 as you breathe out. The intention is to distract you from all the busyness and stress in your mind and changes your focus. Kind of like counting sheep but that has never worked for me and I think this is different as you are doing the counting with your breathing. Also, you can lay on you back and starting with your toes imagine them relaxing and slowly work your way up, and make sure you relax your face and jaw. Sometimes I start out doing that and find out I've tensed it up again!

Here's a little something to add to the relaxation thing. First tighten the muscle that's to be relaxed (e.g. your toes). Tighten them as much as you can for a count of 10, take a slow deep breath then slowly relax them. Move up to the ankles, tighten, deep slow breath, relax. Calves--tighten, breathe, relax Focus so that you're working JUST with that specific muscle group, no others. Work all the way up to your neck, then face, then eyes. You get to make a really funny face! Don't hurry. And remember to take a deep slow breath for each relaxation segment. It's a great technique, imho.

Better pack up and move east then.

Or south! Like Mexico!

We'll be going to Texas in a month and that will remind me how much I like our climate. I just dislike getting rained on every time I buckle my kid in his carseat, soaking my shoes in puddles, and (my big gripe) almost getting killed on a daily basis on I-5. I can deal with the standard dark and dreary winters, but the storms are what I hate. (I know a lot of you have it worse and I really feel bad for you!) I grew up in tornado alley so I loathe windy nights. This has been a very stressful fall and I just want it to be done.

The kid is finally down for his nap, so time to check all the chickens and work some more on the little coop!
