Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

OHHHH.... I can just see it now... the lashing out and scratching the sides of the bucket as it drowns and tries to climb out! Oh... it's feet are stuck, no scratching! Okay, maybe that would work. I boiled a lobster once and heard it scratching the kettle.... really creeped me out!
OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm starting to think we have the same Facebook friends.

I've been seeing these come across my news feed right around when you post them! LOL

I believe they are 9 weeks now? I have 4 of them and they have been on Corid since last Monday night for slightly bloody poo. The poo I cut off of her cushion feathers was not red.

Quote: Are they on medicated chick starter? If not then get them on corid asap.

They've been on the liquid Corid at 1/2 tsp for a 1 quart waterer since Monday night. She is standing up napping in her box now, with her head tucked away. There is nothing wrong I could see other than being stuck down on her side, having a wad of poo almost as big as a golf ball stuck to her rear, and keeping her eyes closed a lot.

Should I offer her a mash to eat? What should I put in it besides her organic chick starter and water?

Jennifer
A little sugar might help perk her up. If she won't eat, you can mix up a little sugar water and give it to her with a dropper. I would think you have a few of those if you have ever had to give your son medicine. If not you can get them at the pharmacy anywhere. I lost one of the young ones I brought home from the show. She was really little and just started to not walk and not eat. She went down hill so fast, I chose to put her down. It sucks, but it happens. Keep us posted. Do you have them on any electrolytes? You may want to switch from the Corid now to those. You can over medicate.

The poo was stuck in the feathers but the vent didn't appear to be pasted shut. I clipped all the pasty feathers off. I've noticed more poo in their feathers since I started the Corid. Is it from messed up gut flora? I didn't realize it could affect chicks this old (I think they're 9 weeks now?).

How do I get more fiber into their diet? They are on NatureSmart organic chick starter and have a quart waterer in their brooder that they never empty. I change it out every night with fresh water and Corid (tonight is the 7th dose). Should I give them some fresh pumpkin or greens?

Thank you for the help!!

Jennifer
Leave them be with what you have...just make sure the vent is not pasted shut...this will pass within a week, no pun intended !!
**** and they must be warm this time of year !!*****

Good idea, I forgot about sugar water! I'll mix some up. I've got tons of droppers around, still in wrappers. I was planning on going one more day with Corid and then using chick probiotics. I'll have to check if they have electrolytes. I haven't gone the full 7 days, so I'm worried that if I stop early she might relapse....

Thanks! I'm glad I'm feeding the right thing.

Nope finish the 7 days then get some electrolytes in the water. Corid shouldn't mess up their system. It's sulmet that will do that.
But the electrolytes would be good after you are done with the Corid.

I removed the spurs on a rooster today. it was suprisingly easy and no blood really and the rooster didn't even squirm. I though it was going to be hard and/or icky but it wasn't! Watched a youtube vidoe and went out and did it. One skill down, about 100 more to go!

It's amazing what you can find on youtube! May have to do AI on some of my silkies and possibly my Favs, if trimming butt fluff doesn't help! You can find how to vids on that! Unbelievable!

Ah, phooey, CL's post reminded me: I needed to get DE this weekend, and forgot.
So: think maybe Petsmart might have it? Freddies?
I just went out and got way too much of many things: Christmas clothing for Himself and both young men, Layena (at no bargain price, alas) and two sacks of stove pellets, which I use to deal with mudpits in the yard, and dog food, cat food, and more dogfood from TJ's.
And if Himself is up to leaving the house, we still need to get to Freddie's and buy a round of stuff there. He used up his shopping oomph taking Ruby to get her tonails cut this morning, and doesn't seem to have regained any while I was doing chores or shopping.

CENEX feed store in Poulsbo sells it in really big bags, maybe 50#? Maybe other CENEX stores might.
