Hi All,

I'm new here. I live in Duvall and we got our first chicks last Spring (2 Buff Orps, 2 Golden Sex-links, and 2 Americaunas). 1 Buff Orp turned out to be a rooster so we moved him on to someone in need of a BO roo. All but the Americaunas are laying well for me (I'm hopeful they'll be great once they start). They're all fairly mellow, with the sex-links being the friendliest.

Anyway, I'm looking to get 2-3 more pullets preferably at least 3-4 months old and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas of where to look other than craigslist? Also, if said pullets have been raised truely free range think it'll be an issue to have them confined to our 10x50 pen and 5x8 coop?

Thanks!

achick:

10'X50' is a good sized run! I doubt you will have problems. Mine used to free-range, but after the neighbor's dog killed one of my hens, I am confining them to a much smaller run while I'm arranging for a much larger, secure run to be completed. I thought there would be a lot of issues with them in the small run, but there really have not been many. The run is portable so the change of scenery helps, though with all this yucky weather, I have not been able to move it around much. They seem to be entertained with all the perches, hanging treats, hay, kitchen scraps and the flock block, and if the weather is tolerable, I do let them free-range while I'm working in the yard nearby. I always leave a couiple of birds in the run so the others don't wander far, and are easy enough to get back in by dropping a persimmon inside the run.

What a wonderful day in the neighborhood..... just not my neighborhood !!! Had to have our septic pumped. I had part of it uncovered when I got the call telling me they would be here in 30 minutes !!

I got right after it and 20 minutes later here comes the pumper. Then turns out that where I was digging for the hatch was the wrong spot and I had been piling all the gooey clay right on where I needed to dig so I got to move twice as much dirt in a hurry. Got the tank pumped but now it is still plugged tween the house and tank. I called DW's BIL and he brought out his Mexican (and I don't mean that bad) plumber. I spent the rest of the day standing in the rain trying to convince the plumber (who speaks very little english) that poo flows down hill and if the pipe is plugged that can't happen. I finally got him to understand. So he takes a saw and CUTS the pipe off. He managed to get it to drain and said I come in the morning. BUT WAIT !!!!! We need to be able to use the drain. He says ok I fix. He the proceeds to wrap plastic around where he cut the piece out and leaves.
On a better note. We got what I am sure is the first egg from one of the new RIR banty's. I will try and get a pic up soon.
