Oh Oh Oh, my husbands sister showed me how to make the authentic Chile Rellenos. Love love love them! We grow our own Anchos every year to make Chile Rellenos about the same time we've made our own salsa! Yum. And good way to use up eggs. On another note from something mentioned earlier, hubby is Mexican and Native American (New Mexico Apache? Hopi?) but hardly recognizes the Native American part. Says "they are all the same" LOL The Southwest Indians and Mexicans have been intermixing for so long they look at is as all the same race! Really difficult when trying to get info to register the kids as 1/4 Indian.

I just went to the website and saw several companies I buy from on the list. I do know of one variety non GMO from Monsanto, Cheddar Broccoli, and those companies sell it. So I guess maybe only the GMO they don't sell. Wonder if there is a full list out there of all the seeds Monsanto sells. Really don't want to support that company in any way. And, why is Territorial Seeds on the list? Didn't Monsanto buy them out? They are trying to monopolize on the seeds just like the few big food companies supply all our food.

I LOVE that list from garden of eatin--how handy is that???

cowgirl--I noticed Johnny's on there twice--one is the Johnny's selected, and the other is just Johnny's.. Is there a difference?? I also googled Territorial/Monstanto--there is quite a bit of info out there and most of it worth reading....

this list is from 2008-09, but I think worth going over... http://ft2garden.powweb.com/sinfonian/?p=432

I just got both my Johnny's Selected and Territorial catalogs

I love planning the garden...

I'm thinking Johnnys and Johnnys selected are the same.

OK, sorry for my ignorance, but did the Mojave used to have trees? What kind? Suitable for logging? I used to go all the time as a kid and it's always been a desert, no trees that I remember.

Well just why do ya think it is all desert??? Cuase grandad took all the trees!!!

Having lived around here forever, I just could not wrap my mind around the desert ever having been a treed area although I know over logging can surely change the climate and vegetation of an area.
Then, it dawned on me what kind of climate the pinon nuts are gathered in. So, I'm wondering if it was a pine tree forest. anybody know?

So, then, I come back after posting my pinon question and LO! here is the post... so over logging makes sense now. At least in the sense that there could have been trees there

Yeah there are some women in Auburn who hawk tamales on Thursday and Sat. I love the Mayan banana leaf kind!

I'm originally from San Antonio and we give tamales at Christmas the way most people give tins of home baked Christmas cookies. I have already made close to 200. Most of them were eaten by my kids! They love the green chicken ones.

Wish I knew how to make the ones in the banana leaves.

My husbands mom makes these sweet tamales. they are the bomb. There is no filling, it's all masa with sugar, raisins, cinnamon, nutmeg sometimes pineapple. Oh so good.

Well, kind of thought that might be the case but thought grandad couldn't have beeen that old! Can't go from forest to sand in a few years! I mean if it was sand when I was a kid (50 years give or take a few) how old would your grandad be?
