So sorry...

Well, today was a crazy day at the Vet office. I (still learning) was working the front desk and scheduled an appointment too close to lunch...the client of course came in late and the little dog had to have a small procedure done....so no one got lunch. The poor Dr. had been up on an awful call for a horse that she had been working on for 3 days. She worked on it for over 5 hours yesterday and ended up having to euthanize, she then had to necropsy. I feel so bad for owner and doctor....that is never easy for anyone. So Dr. was up really late, in this morning...I give her no lunch...then we get phone calls for a farm emergency and another for a dog attack coming in. She ended up not having to go on the farm call....but the dog attack came in after hours. Very long and tiring day. and I feel sorry for the DR.

Thanks for all the seed tips Cowgirl. Since I have already ordered the eggplant seeds, I will make the eggplant DD's responsibility as she is the one who eats them. In the past I have usually ordered from Territorial and saved them from year to year, or I purchase seeds from The Nursery at Mt. Si, as the people who own it are wonderful. I don't have any seeds left now because last year I mixed everything I had together and threw it all into the same bed (all the dates were expired). I had great results! I should have figured out what to do with all those carrots though, as they don't keep well in the fridge like the bagged ones from the grocery store, and they don't taste good dried (I have a 5 tray Excalibur) - banana chips and apple chips are yum!

I'm sorry you had such a rough night

The hens enjoyed free ranging today. They had to take turns with the dogs as I don't trust them all out at the same time. When I re-filled their feeders, they all came charging back while I was in the run. It made it kind of difficult to crawl back out of the thing. I ran out of layer food, so I will have to go to the Issaquah Grange tomorrow.

I worked for the first time in the tax office today - they scheduled me for 15 of the 26 hours available and divided the rest between the other 2 gals. It should pay for the chicken feed and other pet food, but not much else.

Okay, many years ago we were given some chickens. ONe of them was a Seabright (I think that is what it was) - kind of a minature chicken...she died of old age...fortunately she was not massacured during a dog attack - which ended our chicken involvement some 10+ years ago. What can anyone tell me of these little chickens - other than that they give small eggs.

Sebrights are showy little bantam chickens that come in Silver or Golden. Both are very pretty. Here's a link to them on Feathersite: http://feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Sebr/BRKSebrights.html

Oh, and talking about bad days, I had an aweful night. Can't go into detail but think alchohol and jail and it wasn't me. Life is a freaking B---H.

Hope you are having a better night tonight.

Thank you so much...We had a silver Seabright. I just went and looked at the web site information that you had sent. The hubby was reading over my shoulder. I don't want them because they give such small eggs, but the one we had had was such a sweety. He really wants another.

Ok space fans...I just went to do my evening humidity check, the chicken eggs set in incubator #2 are on day 3 and A-OK...and I checked the runner duck eggs on day 22...set on New Years Eve...??
And they are still turning ( in the egg turner) and so I added water, and noticed a BIG PIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What ended up being wrong with the horse? Twisted bowel?

I didn't have the heart (or the time) to ask the vet today....I think it was a twisted bowel or colic....she worked hours and hours and hours on this horse. I feel so bad for her (the vet - of course the owner too).
