OK so here is my big technical question today for you chicken wizzards. I know they make egg scales but there must be a standard of each size weighs x #grams etc. So can ya help me? I have a small scale and DW wants to "size eggs".

Thanks for the heads-up! We're just getting ready to start our adventure with chickens. You can't get much better than free! The coop sounds a little small for 6 hens but we have a playhouse we were going to convert so I guess I could always connect the two. I'm usually too late on free CL stuff but I'll let know if I scored on this deal!

DS is bummed about the roo ... but he understands. How much do you want for the pullet and the hen? and a couple of Blue copper maran hens and/or black copper marans pullets or young hens? I'm hoping my new coop will be done in the next 2 weeks. The weather has not been cooperating; too wet to get the tar paper up. I would kinda like a couple of roos, they would need to be able to tolerate each other. I'm in no hurry for them, but DD wants one of our hens to hatch some eggs. Is it best to wait for new chicks with all the different birds I want?

The elk are really cool to watch, but the males make me nervous, especially if it is a herd of your bachelors. Our neighborhood association pays a landscape crew to mow the grass on the shoulders of the road so the county won't complain. We got a bill for elk damage to a vehicle. A bachelor herd chased down the guy mowing the lawns. He ran for his truck but could not get the door open in time, so he dove underneath. Several elk stuck around for about 10 minutes while the elk kicked the car!

You didn't pay it did you?

The link in the ad deos not work. I am hoping that does not mean they are gone. I sent an e-mail. I have all those breeds but the speckled sussex and love them! All very friendly. My hens are also 6-7 months old. Good Luck!

Oh, the Omlet Eglu Cube is small like that too, and it claims it can hold 10 standard sized hens. All those girls are considered large. I have 2 tractor type coops, the Omlet and a wooden ark which has a longer coop (8'), but smaller run. When I free range my birds with free choice of which coop they want to go to, all 9 crowd into the Cube, and they all squish together leaving lots of space. I tried moving some back to the ark, but they all make a loud racket until I get them back together again. I am having a walk-in 10X12 coop built that I am dividing down the middle to make 2 coops, and I also turned my old dog run 10'x10' into a safe run for the chickens to be out in when I am gone during the day, and got a small raised coop to put in it. That's 5 coops with runs! I think I went a little insane. I need lots more chickens now, or maybe I should just start breeding heritage birds as I have the coops .... Nah. I think I'll leave that to the experts and I'll just get the chicks to populate them. I have so many friends and neighbors requesting eggs that getting rid of that many eggs would not be a problem. I'm trying hard not to look at all those cute goats and ducks....

CL-You are awfully quiet today!!!!

Are you too busy with hatching babies??

I was going to tell you too........ Handle them as much as possible as soon as they hatch! Runners are a bit quirky but if they imprint on a human right off the bat, then, there is a better chance of them taming down!!

So do you think that first one is chocolate once it dried?

I need a new pic!!! I'm dying here!!!!

The HOA has a Management company and they did pay the deductable for the guys insurance. I became treasurer a few months later and found it during an audit. The old board knew of it and agreed to pay it. I guess one of the attack.
