CL- I'm interested too in seeing how tall he really is. Sure, you can tell he's a big boy in relation but nothing provides a more 'WOW factor' than putting a yard stick up with him next to it.

Please don't bark at me, I'd just like to see it too

Welcome all the newbies! Join in when you can! We just got our second egg of the year this AM! As soon as I opened the coop, our Dominique ran to the small coop and could barely hold the egg in while I opened the door for her to run in the nest box.

It was pretty funny to watch.

I too was buying supplies and getting chick info these past few weeks. Big-R only had non-medicated chick starter in stock. I asked about it and they said they get in a large shipment of medicated chick starter and chicken feed the same time all the chicks show up.

I'm guessing most of the feed supply stores do that. Order it for when people will need it... when they get chicks.

I wouldn't worry about finding chick starter feed.

Cheers!

Wow I did not even notice that earlier. . . . And I know the matter is settled, but come'on, accusation that someone knows absolutely nothing of a breed like Rhode Island Whites is just, I mean, really? There's the SOP, there's plenty articles out, plenty threads on the breed out there. . . Someone can know just as much about them and not own them like they could any other breed. Take judges for example - Plenty have little to no experience with most of what they talk about, but they study enough. That's their job is to know these things. An everyday person has just the same access to knowledge as that judge.

Just had to say that, because as much as I don't want to start this up again, I think I have a good point.

Boy I must say though, today is pretty quiet. . . . Must the be glorious sun dragging everyone out!

loose dogs in my yard tormenting my fenced in CHICKENS AND GOATS!!!

My son is home today, so he caught the most obnoxious one and tied her up. He will go down the road and see if these two dogs belong to someone. gr.

Let's hope it is a responsible someone. We've got a guy down the road who's dogs are loose all the time, wandering down the roads, and sadly though he's a pretty abusive guy. He goes through dogs quick, too. In the beginning, it was a chocolate lab, who he beat with a 2x4 in front of us, just across the road. . . Next was a German Shepard, who I heard yelping, followed by kid's cries all the time, and now it's a Weimaraner who is actually a friendly dog, just constantly following people and wandering far down the road into anyone's property.

I'd wander away from him every chance I got, too.

Jen, I hope you get your loose dogs issue taken care of. I do not understand the concept of people who are pet owners letting them run loose, unless these particular dogs just got out for some reason. I don't think it's just the city girl in me, but I have a hard time tolerating irresponsible pet ownership, especially when I see the results every time I pick up fosters at the Humane Society.

Illia, your neighbor frightens me - what is happening to the dogs he beats? Are they dying, running away, being traded? What? I understand you're in a rural area, but is there no way to report that kind of animal abuse? So often the jerks that are abusive to animals don't stop there, I'd worry what else is happening at their household. That kind of story just breaks my heart.
