My area is considered rural?

I thought rural was agricultural or something. . .

I guess I just don't report things around here. And, our Humane Society is 75 miles away. . . And anything else truly local just isn't all that animal rights-friendly.

For us, Edmonds is considered rural.

I know, it is hilarious what the Puget Sound area considers rural or small or a "town."

I would guess. . . . A neighbor of mine's dog just got shot a month ago because it was in the property of a man who owned two Hereford heifers. The dog was a lab. The heifers were already pretty huge.

. . . Wow, I do live in a backwoods town of a lot of weird people.

In Washington is it legal to shoot dogs messing with your livestock?

Yes but there is a BUT. You potentially would need to prove that the dog/perpetrator was about to or actually physically harming your livelihood. Of course, if you live in the back woods like Illia (

), there could be a different set of rules that abound. This is the same for discharging 'wildlife' (looked it up when one of our girls was killed by a raccoon).

Wait, you mean to say our raccoons are protected unless there is utter proof that they're harming your livestock?

I did not know I had this pet peeve until the neighbor's dog came into my yard and barked at me. Every day I come home from work their dog comes over and just non stop barking. It is a tiny dog so it will walk though my field fence and bark at me.
