What does he have ?
Some diseases are handled by a small dosage. They have always given me too much as far as I am concerned.
Don't remember the dosage now, but I hated that stuff.
The first few days you feel fantastic !
like a 16 year old !
I thought this stuff is the fountain of youth!!

Then I could'ny sleep, then I got 'zonal' and could not concentrate, could not sleep...I had to wean off of it, hate the stuff. maybe a different kind would be available.

That is not the case with RA..to control it so it is not so crippling and destroys the hands, feet, cervical spine, etc (DESTROYS!) is taking the medication to prevent the destruction.
The hands & feet joints and spine can never recover after the RA attack.
You are left horribly disfigured, for life.
So the meds suppress the immunal system.
There by all sorts of nasty diseases , bacterias and cancers can geta foothold. Some of the most common, are lung issues, TB is on that list, as well as any bacterial infections in the lungs or liver.
Often, the spleen has to be removed too.
We shall see.
It may well be I can just wear a mask when I am with the birds, or it may be bad and I have to live in a "bubble" situation.
Have to waite and see what the blood tests say.
This disease struck my Gramma, in her mid fifties, and the pain and swelling was excriciating.
By her late 60s, she was damaged so bad that most toes stuck straight up, all fingers horribly curved outward from the hands, elbows and wrists and neck vertebrae looked like oyster shells on the X rays. Then it stops.
No more pain, but you are left unable to so much as open a door knob.

You probably already know this but most of the RA immuno drugs are also used to treat Crohns disease and UC. with Crohns comes RA and many other side effects and the RA drugs suppressed the crohns. So Remicade, Humira, Asacol etc are used to gain remission with crohns. they also treat the arthritis and joint pain that comes with it. Remicade and Humira are biologicals, remicade made from rat proteins and Humira from humans. There are many of us on these drugs and the side effects you mentioned are very rare. none of us live in a bubble or have to wear a mask due to the threat of infection. I know lots of people who have animals, chickens horses dogs etc that cause no harm. You are tested for TB before treatment, and any and all allergies. Some reject or react to the medications but usually in the form of an allergic reaction. Anyway just a little info, dont be to afraid if those drugs can help you out.

All of you, Hallerlake too, have made me feel alot better thanks !!!

I was thinking while on these drugs, my celiac disease and derma-hyper active auto immune reactions would all be taken care of..not meaning I could eat wheat again, just that the immunal system would calm down..that is why docs gave me such a high dosage in the past to "shock the sytem" and get it to STOP.
Then they stop the prednisone cold turkey, which usually throws me into a drug-induced diabetic reaction..sleep for a few weeks and all is once again better.
Oh well, we will worry about it later.
No sense worrying about it at all really.
But thanks everyone for easing the mind !

Does she have the weight gain, moon face, up all night, sleep all day, eat 24/7 bouncing off the walls...?

No, she doesn't have any of those symptoms. Well, she does sleep a lot, but that's recent, and related to being 88.

That is how we took the bobcat photos and got the cool pictues of the Guineas in the yard that I posted a few weeks back.

I am not thinking my body has betrayed me.
I have had Auto immune disorders all my lfe.
If anything at this time in my life, I KNOW myself.
I know I can shed skin as if scaleded bu hot grease, at any moment.
I know my derma-grafica can also return as well as all those lovely pre-scloroderma issues that have gone ""away"".
I will not live on steroids.

Very cool!
They screw you up so bad, and make me flippin insane, no sleep, constantly eating, manic behavior::roid rage ?
No thanks.
Yes alot of drugs have been invented since gramma's RA. All seem to be an immunal suppressant of one kind or another. We shall see.
I have alot of research to do...I did get some good old Ben Gay today...love the smell...like Vick's vapo-rub, it is the smell that makes it work !

Thanks, that is good to know !
So no one used Ivermec 7 drops on a bread cube to your birds ?
I usually use Wazine, this time thsy are getting Ivermectin.
I will go does 1 flock and do the rest tomorrow I guess.

CL, I've used the Ivermectin Pour On. You have to find a really bare spot on their skin where there's not a lot of fluff or the fluff will absorb the medicine instead of the skin. Between their shoulders or under their wing works well. Then use a 3 cc syringe with a 25g needle. Make sure the needle is parellel to the surgace of the birds skin so if it jumps it doesn't get stuck.

I found a thread on here that said to use this for dosing:

1 drop for a small Old English Bantam hen
2 drops for an Old English Bantam male to a regular small bantam size
3 drops for an average bantam or very small commercial hen
4 drops for an average adult chicken or small large breed hen
5 drops for a large large-fowl bird
6 drops for Giant breeds

Let me see if I can find the thread again.

#12 in that thread gives the dosing info I copied up there, but it is a very informative thread to read.

OK, nevermind, you were using an injectable, not the pour on. Did you do a search on the forums to see if you can find the dosage there?
