I've often heard that some of the best therapy for arthritis (including RA) is getting moving. CL, there was a great article in Reader's Digest a couple of months back about a woman with horrid RA that could barely move off the couch, and her daughter got her to go to water aerobics first, and they slowly built on that. Now she goes to the gym several times a week, including her original water aerobics class and yoga. She feels much better than she has in years.

That is not the case with RA..to control it so it is not so crippling and destroys the hands, feet, cervical spine, etc (DESTROYS!) is taking the medication to prevent the destruction.
The hands & feet joints and spine can never recover after the RA attack.
You are left horribly disfigured, for life.
So the meds suppress the immunal system.
There by all sorts of nasty diseases , bacterias and cancers can geta foothold. Some of the most common, are lung issues, TB is on that list, as well as any bacterial infections in the lungs or liver.
Often, the spleen has to be removed too.
We shall see.
It may well be I can just wear a mask when I am with the birds, or it may be bad and I have to live in a "bubble" situation.
Have to waite and see what the blood tests say.
This disease struck my Gramma, in her mid fifties, and the pain and swelling was excriciating.
By her late 60s, she was damaged so bad that most toes stuck straight up, all fingers horribly curved outward from the hands, elbows and wrists and neck vertebrae looked like oyster shells on the X rays. Then it stops.
No more pain, but you are left unable to so much as open a door knob.

Has anyone tried the old trick of putting empty gallon milk jugs around the coops?
My dogs are freaked by big white things.
I brought home a white board once and walked past my brother's doberman and it made him so freaked he peeed.

I have always seen people do that around parked trailers and motorhomes, and along lawns and shrubs to keep male dogs from coming there to pee...Don't know if it works with females or coyotes ?

CCG ::: The babies are so adorable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had a problem with one neighbors pitbull. He is actually sweet, except he likes to run around the coop and run, chasing and freaking out my girls. I had my son(who is a really good shot) hit him with a couple of paintballs. He went home with bright red paint on him and I am sure his owner got the message. We had talked nicely about it before and I told her to take care of the problem soon and she didn't. So I figured a shot in the butt with a paintball would scare him a little and send her a message. I don't want to actually hurt the dog, but seriously? Can't people keep their animals in their own yard? My chickens don't go over to her yard. Geez!

If he can jump the fence(which he can) then chain him up until you can figure something else out!

One place I lived a farmers dog would sometimes take one of my chickens to its home. The farmer told me that he believed his dog was killing some of my chickens, I told him it was ok cause my chickens were eating his soy beans. He was not to happy.

My neighbor was a little put off by cats messing in her beds. Heard that putting water bottles in the bed will keep the cats out. She tried it and it worked. Amazed me because I thought it was too dumb to work.
The only problem is well meaning friends and neighbors (like me) kept picking them up, thinking they were trash.

It's not necessarily a hopeless situation. My mother has lived with RA for a loooong time. She carried on a normal life until her knees gave out. That's not related to RA. Crummy joints just run in the family.

Treatments have improved a lot since your grandmother's day. I know how awful it is to get news that you have something you'll have to live with your whole life. You feel like your body has betrayed you, but don't give up hope. It's amazing what modern science can do.

How much edemame can a chicken eat???
I do like the idea of putting a 7000w zapper out there to scare away the critters.
I've got 2 smaller ones I was going to use on my little duck tractor today. Got to get aome restful sleep at night.
The cyote famliy took my very fat & partly blind Bichon 2 years ago. They've put my address on their menu.

No coyotes yet. Have the door barricaded as I havn't had a chance to get a new latch yet and today I'm going to fluff up the soil to see if I can get some prints tonight. Should be getting hungry again. Been making several visits down there until about 1 am and bring the dogs to pee and leave scent. I think If I stay down there to shoot them they will smell me anyway and not come around. Maybe I should move the chickens and sit in the coop with the door open and look them in the eye when they get here. Ha! In order to put up electric on all my pens I need to get the insulators that attach to chain link but haven't found them yet. I could at least wrap the coop and across the door but with the barricades they can't get in there anyway. Looking on craigslist for a video baby monitor. Found a few but one was in Seattle. It's $50, they are $150-$200 at Target. Has anyone seen the real kind of cams on craigslist? What are they called? Maybe the kind they use for foaling. Hopefully get the outdoor light up today.
