Too late for today, but you can buy a couple of "Snuggle Safe" microwave disks. They hold the temp at 85 for 12 hours and my little chickies hang out on them.
And how do you heat up the disks if you lose power?
I missed that.
We just lost power here and I got a brooder with one duckling, an incubator and a hatch box loosing heat fast.
I left the brooder and incubator but put a candle and hot water in the hatch box.
It worked for a while, till the power came back on.
I'll have to figure out how to do it so I don't actually open the hatch box.
Hope duckie hatches.
I have a generator, but I also have a BIG pack of those instant hand warmers, I use them for shipping babies and if need be, heating the bators.
All you do is open the pack & expose the little pillow to air, smack it around a bit, then toss it in with the eggs, not on the eggs.
In a normal incubator you can use 8 or 10.
Never put a blanket over the airholes when the power goes out or the eggs will loose oxygen & can die.
You can buy the handwarmers and also foot warmers at hardware & sporting goods depts.
They come in very HANDY!!!!!!!!!
They put out ALOT of heat, and remember to have air holes open!!
