Oh I think those were culls that Royce had for sale?
Yes they were. He was asking $10 a piece for them. The 3 DQ by the door were his too. He told me he was not sure why they were DQ - they sure were gorgeous! I did not notice they were sick, but I did not spend much time looking at them.
Heather - your Sussex are gorgeous! I liked the speckleds too, but that coronation especially is beautiful! I think you must spoil your birds. The ones we got from you follow us around, even after I've scattered the veggies that my hens flock me for.
When we got home, DD put the 2 hens (Sussex from Heather and Marans from zgoatlady - sorry, I forgot your name) in with our other hens
I told her to put them in the new eglu cube in the dog kennel and we'd put her 2 little cochins in the old cuber & run or the little wooden catawba coop. (both the older coops are in another area of the yard that can qet quite muddy). Her little cochins got the new eglu in the dog run which is supposed to be my quarentine coop/greenhouse.
For the most part, the hens are all doing great together, though I had to remove one of my EE's because she decided that the sussex is a challenge for her spot in the middle of the pecking order, and kept trying to corner the poor hen. The marans hen looks so much like my Australorps, that the hens don't seem to notice she's new. I sure hope I don't regret not having them in quartentine! Is it too late to move them? Nobody looks sick.
My SLW have accepted the new sussex into thier clique, one of my BO gives her the stink-eye if she gets too close, but does not attack, and the sussex is smart enough to know to walk away from her. At night, I found the sussex in the coop on the highest nesting bar! That bar only holds 7 hens comfortably, but 10 hens were squished together on it, and the new marans was alone on a lower bar. (I put the EE in the coop at night, and removed her again this morning.) She is in the run attached to the coop with my 14 birds from CGG. The weather has been too cold for me to let them out yet as they range from 5-8 weeks.
The cochins love their new digs. They spent some time exploring their 10'X10' run, and then hopped into the Eglu and have not left since! They first were in the "living room" where they ate and drank, then the roo discovered the large nesting box and called to the hen (his "wife" as Olivia says) "Hey hon, check out the master bedroom
"
I don't know if she's going broody, but she has been sitting there all day, and the roo has been at the opposite end of the nest box diving through the wood shavings. yesterday, the hen was trying to take dust baths in the shavings. Olivia is hoping that one day she will go out there and find the eglu filled with little cochins!
My 3 OE from CL are living in the house for now - in the toy-box brooder where they appear to be quite content. They are much quieter than the chicks I got from CGG that are talking and singing constantly!
If I can find my camera, I'll post pictures after bathing my dogs. I took pictures of that huge favorelle roo.
