The streams that run under Ribary Way have been a torrent all day, even as early as 8 am. I got a call at 4pm. DD, who is 9, decided to ride her scooter home when the bus driver told her it could not go on the bus. Why did she not call? Why did the school let her go the 5+ miles home by herself in torrential rains and high winds? She stopped at my work. My boss told her that little girls should not be out riding scooters in such terrible weather. He did not call me either. Thank God she tripped over a fishing rod sunken in a puddle near the Snoqualmie River. She tripped, breaking the scooter and landing in the puddle. she walked from there to the Chevron at the I-90 exit by the outlet mall to use the phone. Had she not tripped, she would have reached the torrent in another 1.5 miles (I have photos, but unable to post). I don't think she would have realised the shoulders are likely washed out, and the water off the sides is at least waist deep. (3 years ago, the channel it cut through the asphalt was 10 FEET deep! If she made it through the torrent, she would have had another 1.5 miles and 540 feet elevation gain in some of the worst weather I've seen here.
That is REALLY frightening. And I would be really upset with more than a couple of people, and I'm not talking about your 9 year old child! I think I'd be making some phone calls either tonight or tomorrow.
