anything with processed corn that we eat is most likely GMO but it doesn't have to be labled as such because of something something exempt something.
in corn and other crops now they have gotten corn to metabolise the compound Bt. bacterium thurngenesis (sp) and it causes the insect feeding on the plant to become sick and slowly die.
normally i do not site wiki anymore but in terms of science it is actually accurate and an aggregate of many scholarly articles and i figured no one wants to read a scientists report. but this covers the concept of Bt well

in the us certain grains do not have to be labled GMO even though they are transgenic.
does your frosted flakes say made with gmo corn? or gmo soy?
many products actually label "made without gmo corn" but it is a commonly accepted fact that many vegetables in the market are gmo in some way.
knowing all this might cause people to become more firm in homegrown produce or it might make people freaked out.
at the same time it is good to know what you are putting in your mouth... and essentially the consumer should become more aware about what they eat (i am most likely preaching to the crior here, but mentioning this as a principle)
people are slowly becoming more aware about how chickens are raised and because of the salmonella scare with eggs people are now raising their own flock as a personal form of 'biosecurity of food'
