Gorgeous Roo! I wonder if that is what mine will look like when he grows up? How noisy is he and does he crow often? Neighbor with 4 dogs that run loose keeps reminding me that she does not want to hear any roosters. I told her if her dogs weren't loose, I'd have no need for roosters to protect my flock (of course I'd still need them for more chicks, but she doesn't need to know that part.)

wait what roo? oh yeah!

yes should look pretty similiar!! Hoss is pretty quiet, yes he crows in the morning but not all day,. and he usually waits until around 7 am to make some noise. its not a loud crow though

whats the ratio of girls to boy in any given hatch? gonna need a few homes lol

Thanks everyone for the nice words about Hoss, he really is a nice boy. his girls love him. the last roo they hid from and then stopped laying...

so i woke up with stomach pain at 1am.... and after much pacing the hallway and tossing in my sleep i finally emptyed my stomach out at 4:30am.... then after more waiting in pain i finally fell asleep for an hour before i had to wake up for going on the field trip.... to quincy to see a treefruit nursery.

note to self if one is sick and rides a charter bus you will get really bad motion sickness.... not until we reached I-90 could i stop panting to keep from being sick.... then i passed out from the gentle rocking and got another hour of sleep.....

so i have functioned today in stomach pain, constant nausea and other issues with 2 hours of sleep..... just took some pink liquid stomach stuff....

i haven't had a stomach bug last this long or have this long of nausea since i was last on pain killer (december)

so i am only posting this and now going to sleep

most likely i will fall behind on posts..... oh well.

also pretty sure this is not food poisoning.... it normally stops once my stomach emptys......

also sipping ginger ale and 7up

I once read about an adoption program for seniors that guarantees to take back or place the pet if anything happens to the owner; to increase adoptions & decrease lonely/depressed seniors who are afraid to get a pet for fear of it being put down if/when they pass on. I'll let you know if I can find the information.

good luck!

also thought i would post this.... its probably already too late but is still worth being informed of. no matter what your political opinion is this interference into the chicken world (and quickly other aspects of agriculture... because of how it is worded) can be greatly impacted.... do YOU want to have to have a sales tax on every chick you sell?

"Representative Christine Rolfes (D- Bainbridge Island) has filed an amendment to SSB 5487, hen care standards, that would threaten the current sales/use tax exemption on agricultural inputs, by imposing the sales tax on baby chicks and pullets used in egg production, if certain care standards were not met.

This amendment invites an unraveling of Washington's tax code. Not only are ag inputs, like feed, seed, fertilizer and spray material at risk, but also, all manufacturing would be put at risk under this policy direction.

Currently, inputs used in virtually all manufacturing processes are sales tax exempt. Examples include aluminum to build Boeing airplanes, logs to produce lumber, and virtually every other product manufactured in the state. If applied to all inputs, Rolfes' tax policy would further cripple already struggling agriculture and manufacturing industries in the state.

The bill could be heard this afternoon, so contact your Representatives NOW and tell them to say NO TO THE ROLFES AMENDMENT to SB 5487, and NO TO RAISING TAXES ON AGRICULTURE!

i have also gotten other emails about egg dealer and just general chicken keeping rules that are on either this bill or other bills.....

On a funny note, the cockatiel we are sitting for the next year (for my niece who brought home her preemie and can't have any birds in the house) was acting kind of funny the other day(what I would call broody if I were talking about a chicken) Sure enough we walked by her cage later and she had laid an egg!!!

Soooo funny! Hissing at us and attacking her toys!

Silly bird! She has not been around a male bird so the egg is not fertile but she is setting it all the same. She is so much quieter now that she is on that egg it's a shame I have to take it away from her after a while.

Sounds like you need an incubator of some sort for when Robin is out of commission! Poor thing,. I feel your pain.

Keep your eye on craiglist and ebay for local and old humidaires, GQF sportsmans, etc..

Sure...why not? You just need to give everyone non-medicated chicken feed and give the ducks a tub of water to bath in. They take daily baths.
My ducks do not perch, so they need a nest at floor level. They also don't eat that much feed as they forage for slugs & crawlies. Love dandelions. I actually have to go out of my place to "harvest" dandelions for them today.
Wonder what will happen if one stuck a duckling under a broody hen??

I might have to haggle for some ducky eggs next week then

Most medicated chick/chicken feeds are actually safe for waterfowl now. It used to be that sulfa drugs were used in medicated feeds, and birds are very sensitive to OD's of sulfas (causes organ failure). Nor, most medicated feeds contain Amprol/corid/amproloprium which is very safe even at 3-4x the normal dosage for even the most delicate of birds (Mr. Peter Brown, the chicken doctor, had me using 3x the dosage on chicks last year for resistant coccidia, you can come see some results of the treatment at the Stevenson show).

So,.. check the label. Sulfa drugs= not ok for waterfowl due to OD, amprol based drugs are ok for waterfowl feed.

He has seen them through the slider and smelled them while I was holding them. We will be putting brick or concrete around the base of their pen.

Nice coop:)

My pitbull -- a rescue who is veeerrry olden -- takes naps in the chicken yard when I am out there working. When the sun is shining.. She likes the chickens and goats. Tolerates the cats - thinks it's funny to scare them.. But makes no move to do damages... Thankfully!
